Sam Darnold had been atop the oddsboard for weeks, but after the Vikings dropped to 5-1 with a loss to Detroit in Week 7, Darnold drifted from +200 two weeks ago to +1600 this week.
The new favorite is Kirk Cousins, even though his Falcons lost 34-14 at home to Seattle in Week 7.

Cousins is fourth in the NFL in passing yards (1,840) and tied for seventh in touchdown passes (10). He missed a majority of last season with a torn Achilles.
Also charging up the board is Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins, who was at +1000 on Oct. 9, and now sits second at +330. He’s third in the league in rushing yards (478), after also missing most of last season with a torn Achilles.
Lastly, Cincy’s Joe Burrow is now third on the board, after sitting at +1200 two weeks ago. Burrow missed the conclusion of last season with a wrist injury.
The Bengals have won three of their last four, and Burrow has 1,759 passing yards (sixth), 14 TDs (fourth) and only two picks on the season.

Resale tickets for the World Series opener between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees at Dodger Stadium started at $1,358 on Monday evening on StubHub.
That’s an increase from opening prices on TickPick earlier Monday, where the cheapest tickets available came in at $999 and later increased to $1,085.

StubHub said sales outpaced last year’s final figures and are four times higher than the pace of the 2022 World Series Series. Sales for Games 3-5 in New York are 40% higher than for Games 1, 2, 6 and 7 in Los Angeles.
Vivid Seats, another resale outlet, said its average price of tickets sold for this year’s Series was $1,368, about double the $685 last year for the Texas Rangers–Arizona Diamondbacks matchup. Vivid said its resale price averaged $550 for the 2009 World Series between the Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies.
Vivid said the average price of tickets it sold Monday was $1,302 for Game 1 on Friday, $1,392 for Game 2 on Saturday, $1,443 for Game 3 at Yankee Stadium and $1,389 for Game 4 on Oct. 29. It did not disclose a figure of how many tickets it sold. As of Tuesday afternoon, the cheapest Game 3 ticket was standing room only at Yankee Stadium for $1,705.
Happier times for Inverness Caley Thistle fans in 2015 when the club won the Scottish Cup
Inverness Caledonian Thistle has been placed into administration as it fights for survival.
The club, which was formed 30 years ago this year, is in financial crisis and had been trying to raise funds to keep going.
The aim of the administrative process is to rescue the club, but the SPFL confirmed Inverness had 15 points deducted – the club now faces potential relegation from League 1.

Administrators will attempt to find new owners, but if that is unsuccessful assets could be sold and the money raised distributed to creditors.
A statement released by the club said that James Stephen, Malcolm Cohen and Shane Crooks of BDO had been apppointed as joint administrators.
A spokesperson for BDO said: “We can confirm a formal appointment has been made and Inverness Caledonian Thistle is now in administration.
“We understand this will be a difficult and uncertain time for the club, its staff, its loyal fan base and the local community.

“The administrators will be in a position to provide further information and their plan to seek to secure the long term future of the club in due course.”
It is unclear yet what the impact will be for playing and non-playing staff, as well as the manager Duncan Ferguson – although job losses are likely at the club.
Talks were held last week with businessman David Anderson about a possible takeover but they ended without agreement.
Then on Tuesday, the Court of Session confirmed that the club had appointment administrators.

Losses ran to £1.2m last season and the club has forecast a similar loss this year, but that figure does not include money spent on restructuring following relegation from the Championship last season.
A online fundraising campaign had generated about £87,000 but the target had been to reach £200,000 by last Wednesday, and it would only have staved off administration until the end of October.
Caley Thistle said donations would be used to fund the club’s expenses in the administration period and would not be spent on professional fees.
Team manager Duncan Ferguson has also been working for free to help save money.

Tim Cooper, president of UK insolvency trade association R3, said the aim of administration would be to save the club.
He told BBC Scotland News: “For the fan base of Caley Thistle it can look very daunting and demotivating.
“They can be rest assured if the club goes through this process everything will be done by any administrators appointed to work very hard through that process to save the club.”

Often known as Caley or the Jags, the club was formed in 1994 from the controversial merger of two existing clubs – Caledonian and Inverness Thistle – which both dated back to 1885.

It climbed through the leagues, reaching the Scottish Premier League in 2004, and enjoyed cup glories – including the Scottish Cup in 2015.
The club’s 3-1 victory over Celtic in a Scottish Cup third round match in 2000 prompted the famous newspaper headline from The Sun: “Super Caley Go Ballistic, Celtic Are Atrocious.”
But relegation to the third tier of Scottish football earlier this year saw Caley caught in a downward spiral with fans facing lengthy trips to away games, and finances severely challenged.
Now, following the 15-point deduction, the club drop to bottom of the league on -3 points. If they finish bottom after 36 games, they will be relegated automatically.

Should they finish second bottom, they have a chance of staying up via the play-offs. Regardless of what division they are in next season, they will start on -5 points.
Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has signed a new long-term deal with the Premier League club.
The 23-year-old has scored 15 goals and created 11 assists in 74 appearances since joining the Magpies from Everton in January 2023 in a £45m deal.
Following his England debut in March this year, Gordon was a member of the Three Lions squad that reached the Euro 2024 final.

He had been linked with a return to his hometown with Liverpool over the summer but the move never materialised.
“I just think the club’s in a great place,” said Gordon.
“Since the takeover it’s just been up and up. Me and the gaffer are a perfect match in terms of style of play. I love it here.
“The team is very suited to me – and I’m here to win a trophy. The short story is we need to win a trophy.

“Winning a trophy here would be unbelievable because the fans have waited so long. To be part of that team who finally does it is a massive goal of mine.”
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe says Gordon has grown as a “player and a person” since moving to St James’ Park.
“He is dedicated to improving himself and the team, and when you add that to the quality of his performances and his incredibly high work-rate, it’s clear to see why he has such a special connection with our supporters,” said Howe.
“There’s even more to come from Anthony and I’m excited about what’s ahead for him and us.”
The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees will meet up in the World Series, starting with Game 1 on Friday (8:08 p.m. ET on FOX).
This will be the 12th time these iconic franchises will battle for a championship, but the first time since 1981.

Who will start Game 1?
The Yankees will start reigning AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole. The Dodgers have not yet announced a starter. Walker Buehler was expected to start Game 7 of the NLCS if that had occurred. But the long break gives them more options, including potentially Jack Flaherty or Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Neither team has announced its starting lineup, so these are projections based on how Yankees manager Aaron Boone and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts have filled out their cards in recent games. Also, Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman has been in and out of the lineup with an ankle injury, so we’ll have to keep an eye on that. This will be updated when things become official.
Tottenham, West Ham United and Hammers midfielder Mohammed Kudus have been charged by the Football Association following Saturday’s Premier League match.
Ghana winger Kudus was sent off during his side’s 4-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for kicking Spurs defender Micky van de Ven and pushing both the Dutchman and midfielder Pape Matar Sarr in the face.
But the FA have charged the former Ajax player with violent conduct and acting in an improper manner for an incident “after the offence he was sent off for”.

Additionally, both clubs have been charged with failing to ensure their players “didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or violent way” at the time of Kudus’ sending off.
Kudus, 24, was initially shown a yellow card for his push on Van de Ven but it was upgraded to a red following a VAR review, which showed referee Andrew Madley the pushes on Van de Ven and Sarr.
Both sets of players gathered around Kudus, who had put West Ham ahead in the game, following the incident.
If found guilty, he could serve an extra punishment on top of the three-game ban he will serve for his violent conduct dismissal.

The three parties have until Thursday to provide their responses.

Upon entering our television truck, one’s eyes can go off in many directions.
Monitors blanket the front wall. Work stations are set throughout in a fashion logical only to those who man them. And there are so many dials and switches that it reminds one of what the inside of a spaceship might look like.
Well, the Captain Kirk of our operation is technical director Colby Bourgeois and our “Starship Enterprise” can’t flourish without his deft mind and nimble hands. Controlling a board with 1,100 button options, this job is not for the faint of heart or for the fat of finger. It also requires a special temperament. Any producer or director will cite the TD as the true brains of the outfit. With Colby, that goes double.
The front row in a production truck consists of producer, director and technical director. The TD listens to the cues from the director and hits the appropriate key in response to every command. Nothing appears on your screen without the TD punching the right button. Amid the occasional organized chaos of live television, the TD must float above the fray and methodically keep the show afloat.
We’ve all taken different paths to occupy our current seats. Colby was a tinkerer as a kid, and used that curiosity to study math and electrical engineering at Arizona State. That led to work at a local station in Phoenix, and ultimately a jump into network sports in 1998. For the last 18 seasons, Colby has sat at the elbow of director Rich Russo, having switched six Super Bowls.
Utilizing youthful piano skills, he lords over his massive control board while keeping his eyes on dozens of monitors.
Now things can go awry in this age of computerization. At Super Bowl 48 in New Jersey between the Seahawks and Broncos, Colby’s station suffered a glitch and temporarily failed. Without missing a beat, he calmly went to the emergency plan, which required him switching the show while standing up at a different panel. The 110 million viewers were never the wiser. And now I know if I see Colby standing up during the game it’s not a good thing.

What also hasn’t been a good thing is the non-competitive nature of virtually all the games our crew has witnessed so far this season.
Week 7 was sure to be different, though, with two legendary franchises meeting up for the first time since their Super Bowl showdown in February, and the league’s best quarterback taking center stage.
Brady and Mahomes cross paths … again

When the NFL schedule was released in May, the title-game rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers became FOX’s most anticipated game of the season. Patrick Mahomes would be on the field, and Tom Brady would be in the booth. It sure seemed like a dream Sunday.
The fun started on Saturday, when Brady was tasked with interviewing Mahomes for the FOX pregame show. The image of the all-time greatest quarterback sitting side-by-side with the NFL’s current greatest quarterback was simply iconic.

The mutual respect was evident in the interview. As a player, Brady’s competitive fire prevented him from becoming pals with his fellow QBs. Now in retirement, he sees a kindred spirit in Mahomes, dedicated to winning in any way possible.

This was not the first face-to-face interaction between Brady and Mahomes, as they crossed paths after the 2019 AFC Championship Game when Tom’s New England Patriots beat Patrick’s Chiefs 37-31. For the only time in his career, Brady made it a point of stopping by the opposing locker room after the game to console and give props to the rising young star.
During this weekend’s interview, Mahomes looked back on that moment and what it meant to him.
“For me, the biggest thing was obviously you’re Tom. You’ve done this for a long time, and you had that thought-process in that moment to come into the locker room, and you looked at me, and you said ‘you’re doing it the right way. Keep doing it like that, and you’ll have success,’” Mahomes said.

Our Saturday meetings have been fascinating. The crew of about 14 will listen raptly as Brady shares the results of his research and his take on the upcoming game.

This week, he predicted a game that would be decided by the defenses. Not what you’d expect in a game matching offensive gurus Andy Reid and Kyle Shanahan. Yet it was the blitzing and tight man coverage by Kansas City that played a large factor in its 28-18 victory.

With injuries depleting the offense, Mahomes had been forced to play with many backups. He needed to adjust his game to suit the depleted talent around him. Gone was the exciting downfield passing, replaced by a tough running game that punished San Francisco.
Of course, Mahomes did manage one eye-popping moment on a career long 33-yard run, juking and jiving his way past defenders and reminding everyone of his enormous talent.

Next week we have an interesting matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks. This will be a chance for Brady to watch quarterback Josh Allen sling it around in the NFL’s loudest outdoor venue.
