Robinson came in as the first piece of an ambitious revamp at the Brewers.

A British-record 23 signings were made in a single transfer window, with a total of 47 player movements at Burton over the summer as 24 on the books at the end of last season were moved on.

He was to oversee an entirely new way of playing at a club invested in developing exciting talent.

Hareide told BBC Sport earlier in the season: “Mark Robinson was recruited because he matches the style of play, and these players that the club has acquired matches Robbo’s way of playing football.”

Robinson accepted the task was a challenging one as “the pieces have to fit together”, but he felt the new owners’ “realistic approach” would mean “there will be time” to make it work.

“You hear a lot about ‘this is what we want to do and how we want to do it’, but as soon as they face a little bit of adversity, everyone panics and they do completely the opposite,” he told BBC Sport last month.

But the winless league start that has Burton bottom of the table is the sort of adversity NFG have not been able to ignore.

Tom Hounsell, who left Fulham’s academy in the summer to move to Burton as Robinson’s assistant, has stepped up as interim boss.

John Brayford, a club great who retired as a player with Burton to move into coaching at the club, is among the backroom staff who will continue in their jobs.

Jayson Tatum continued Boston’s Banner 18 celebration by scoring 37 points and making eight of the Celtics‘ NBA record-tying 29 3-pointers on Tuesday as Boston ran away with a 132-109 victory over the New York Knicks on opening night.

Derrick White scored 24 points, Jaylen Brown added 23 and Tatum had 10 assists for the defending champions, who raised their NBA-most 18th championship banner to the rafters before the game. Boston led by as many as 35 points before missing its last 13 3-point attempts while trying to break the record.

Jalen Brunson scored 22 points for New York, and new addition Karl-Anthony Towns had just 12 points and seven rebounds.

With the Celtics leading by more than 20 points early in the third quarter, the TD Garden crowd’s attention strayed from the basketball game and it began chanting “Yankees Suck!”

Fernando Valenzuela, the Mexican-born phenom for the Los Angeles Dodgers who inspired “Fernandomania” while winning the NL Cy Young Award and Rookie of the Year in 1981, has died. He was 63.

The team said he died Tuesday night at a Los Angeles hospital, but did not provide the cause or other details.

His death comes as the Dodgers prepare to open the World Series on Friday night at home against the New York Yankees.

Valenzuela had left his color commentator job on the Dodgers’ Spanish-language television broadcast in September without explanation. He was reported to have been hospitalized earlier this month. His job kept him as a regular at Dodger Stadium, where he held court in the press box dining room before games and remained popular with fans who sought him out for photos and autographs.

Valenzuela was one of the most dominant players of his era and a wildly popular figure in the 1980s, although he was never elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. However, he is part of Cooperstown, which features several artifacts including a signed ball from his no-hitter in 1990.

LeBron James and Bronny James became the first father and son to play in the NBA together Tuesday night during the Los Angeles Lakers‘ 110-103 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The 39-year-old superstar and his 20-year-old son played almost 2 1/2 minutes together late in the first half of Bronny’s NBA debut. They are also the first father and son to play in the NBA at the same time, let alone on the same team.

LeBron scored 16 points, while Anthony Davis had 36 points and 16 rebounds in a dominant performance for the Lakers. Rui Hachimura added 18 points.

JJ Redick won his head coaching debut for the Lakers, who hired the 15-year NBA veteran for his first coaching job at any level.

Anthony Edwards scored 27 points for the Timberwolves, who are coming off their best season in 20 years.

Julius Randle had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Donte DiVincenzo had 10 points in their Timberwolves debuts after the trade sending Karl-Anthony Towns to New York three weeks ago.

Dalton Knecht scored five points in the Lakers’ first-round pick’s debut.

Timberwolves: There will be growing pains in the post-Towns era. Davis ran rampant against Randle and Rudy Gobert, and nobody stepped up to score alongside Edwards.

Lakers: Their largely unchanged roster showed the benefits of continuity, playing disciplined ball on both ends and getting organized defense led by Davis.

Davis was phenomenal down the stretch, either scoring or assisting on 13 of Los Angeles’ next 15 points after he returned to the game with 7:09 left. LeBron’s 3-pointer put it away.

LeBron officially joined Vince Carter as the only players in NBA history to play in 22 seasons. James is sixth in career games played with 1,493 — not counting his NBA-record 287 playoff games.

Three months on from the ceremony in the Cote d’Azur, she feels “great to be back” renewing her ties with her homeland.

“I’ve been looking forward to this camp for a number of weeks,” Weir said. “It was by far the toughest I’ve had to go through in my career. There were so many ups and downs.

“Looking back, I’ve learned a lot. I do feel grateful for a slight change in perspective coming back.”

Weir tried to remain as “balanced” and “rational” as she could as she worked her way back to fitness.

“Some days, it felt like this is totally fine, I can totally do this,” she explained. “Other days, there were tough times.

“It’s physically really demanding. There were so many elements to this injury. It is quite a complex surgery.

“Unfortunately, it’s really common, but there’s a lot to it. It definitely wasn’t a simple journey to recovery, but parts of it I enjoyed.

“I kind of enjoyed that challenge. I’ve been lucky that I had never been injured before. I was proud of the way I dealt with it most of the time. These things happen, it’s part of sport.”

Looking toward the tie with Hungary, Weir believes the 2022 World Cup play-off defeat by Republic of Ireland can “drive us on”.

“I believe in this team, I believe in the squad,” she added. “Everything we worked on has led us to this point.

“We really think and believe and hope that it’s going to be this time.”
