How old is Stipe Miocic?
How long has it been since Stipe Miocic last competed in the octagon? It’s been so long that the former UFC heavyweight champion’s resume doesn’t include a fight – yet alone a win – against a currently active UFC fighter.
And yet, despite being out of action for a little more than three-and-a-half years, Miocic is stepping right back into a title shot Saturday at UFC 309 (ESPN+ pay-per-view), where he’ll challenge champ Jon Jones in the night’s headliner from Madison Square Garden in New York.
Miocic’s long layoff and his age no doubt are big reasons why Jones is a 6-to-1 betting favorite. Miocic, who was born on August 19, 1982, is 42 years old.
Miocic’s UFC title run
Miocic (20-4 MMA, 14-4 UFC) holds the UFC record for most consecutive heavyweight title defenses at three, a streak that took place from September 2016 to January 2018 with wins over Alistair Overeem, Junior Dos Santos and Francis Ngannou.
After that run, Miocic fought Daniel Cormier three times in a row between July 2018 and August 2020, first losing the belt to Cormier before reclaiming it and winning the next two bouts to close their trilogy.
The last time Miocic competed in the octagon was on March 27, 2021, when he was viciously knocked out in a rematch with Ngannou to lose his title at UFC 260.
All these years later, Miocic has a chance to reclaim it against Jones – this time just a little bit older.

When will Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight happen?
The Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight is almost here.
Mike Tyson and Jake Paul meet in the ring Friday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in a showdown that could be the most-watched fight in boxing history.
The main card of the Tyson vs. Paul event will be televised on Netflix at 8 p.m. ET. It will have three fights before Tyson vs. Paul:
Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 2 rematch (10 rounds)
Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos (12 rounds)
Neeraj Goyat vs. Whindersson Nunes (6 rounds)
The Tyson vs. Paul main event walkout will likely not happen until 11:30 p.m.-12 a.m. ET due to the length of the previous fights.
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson (50-6, 2 NC) hasn’t fought since an exhibition draw with legend Roy Jones Jr. on Nov. 28, 2020. The 58-year-old hasn’t had a professional fight in almost 20 years when he quit at the end of the sixth round against Kevin McBride on June 11, 2005.
Jake Paul (10-1) is coming off a sixth-round knockout win of BKFC star Mike Perry on July 20, 2024. He has won four fights in a row.

Chelsea v Man City: BBC Sport previews showdown between WSL top two
Manchester City were the only team Chelsea failed to beat last season on the way to their fifth WSL title in a row.
Their first encounter last season was a feisty 1-1 draw, with Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp both sent off for City, who got their revenge in the reverse fixture with a 1-0 win at Kingsmeadow to end Chelsea’s 22-game unbeaten home run.
“Last season in the two head-to-head games, Manchester City were significantly the better team,” the Guardian’s Tom Garry told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Clearly by the end of the season, those fine margins make a massive difference.
“I think City will go into this game with quite a lot of confidence. They know from last year they can be the better side.”
City let a six-point lead slip towards the end of the season as Emma Hayes’ side won the title on goal difference.
But City have a good record against Chelsea, beating them seven times in the WSL. Only Arsenal, with 10 WSL victories over the Blues, have more.
“Everyone wants to see who can knock Chelsea off their pedestal,” former Manchester City defender Jen Beattie added. “The team in everyone’s head when it comes to that answer is Man City.
“It’s definitely the top-of-the-table clash that everyone wants.”
