UFC 308 video: Ibo Aslan overwhelms Raffael Cerqueira with vicious 51-second standing knockout

UFC 308 video: Ibo Aslan overwhelms Raffael Cerqueira with vicious 51-second standing knockout

Ibo Aslan preached patience heading into his fight at UFC 308 but sometimes strategy goes out the window and it results in a stunning 51-second standing knockout.

The Turkish powerhouse wasted no time coming after undefeated prospect Raffael Cerqueira as soon as the fight got started. Aslan connected with a huge left hook early in the opening round and replays showed Cerqueira’s eyes just rolling back in his head as he shifted into survival mode against the cage.

Aslan continued to unload rapid-fire punches with Cerqueira doing very little to defend himself outside of covering up and hoping he didn’t get flattened on the canvas. As the barrage continued, Cerqueira just kept eating punches and referee Marc Goddard had no choice but to stop the fight.

The 51-second finish moved Aslan to 2-0 in his UFC career with a pair of knockouts already on his resume.

“After this left hook, I watch him in the eyes,” Aslan said about his knockout win. “This is just the beginning of the end. I just crashed. I have Turkish power in my hands. If I touch somebody, he’s already done.”

Since arriving from The Contender Series, Aslan appeared to be a name to watch but he’s looked very impressive in his short time spent in the octagon thus far.

He’s now riding a five-fight win streak overall and his UFC debut already allowed him to avenge the only loss of his career when he put away Anton Turkalj back in March.

“I am coming for all of you,” Aslan shouted when he was asked who he wanted next.

Dos Anjos injures knee, Neal wins by Round 1 TKO

Geoff Neal looked good early before Rafael dos Anjos went down with an injury at UFC 308.

Neal (16-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) hurt dos Anjos (32-17 MMA, 21-15 UFC) on the feet, before the former lightweight champion buckled his left knee, which prompted the referee to stop the fight at the 1:30 mark of Round 1. The welterweight bout was part of the UFC 304 prelims at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

Neal stalked dos Anjos early, dropping him with a overhand left less than a minute into Round 1. Dos Anjos survived, but was taken down by Neal, who decided to let him back up. A few moments later, dos Anjos went down after he appeared to injure his left knee. The fight was ruled a TKO win for Neal.

Neal picked up his first win in over two years. He was on a two-fight losing skid after back-to-back losses to Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Machado Garry.

UFC 308 results: Mateusz Rebecki brutalizes Myktybek Orolbai’s eye, wins decision in bloody thriller

Mateusz Rebecki hit Myktybek Orolbai with everything he had. And it nearly wasn’t enough.

Saturday’s UFC 308 preliminary card gave fans one of the best and bloodiest fights of the year as Rebecki and Orolbai threw down for three rounds, with Orolbai experiencing grisly swelling around his right eye starting in the second round.

Check out Orolbai’s absurd injury below.

After 15 minutes of Rebecki and Orolbai clobbering each other with haymakers on the feet, it was Rebecki who had his hand raised via split decision, with two judges scoring the fight for him 29-28, and the third scoring it 29-28 for Orolbai.

A decisive shot from Rebeck in Round 3 may have been the moment that swung the bout in his favor.

Either man winning wouldn’t have been surprising. The only shock will be if another fight manages to snag the Fight of the Night award from them.

With the win, Rebecki (20-2) rebounds from a loss to veteran Diego Ferreira, which was the Polish standout’s first setback since 2015. He has now won 17 of his past 18 fights.

Orolbai (13-2-1) loses for the first time in his UFC career after defeating Elves Brener and Uros Medic in previous two octagon outings.
