Morgan Charriere crumples Gabriel Miranda

Few men are more popular in Accor Arena than “The Last Pirate.”

At UFC Fight Night 243 on Saturday in Paris, Morgan Charriere didn’t disappoint the French crowd when he knocked out Gabriel Miranda at 0:27 mark of Round 2 in their featherweight matchup.

Charriere (20-10-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) found Miranda (17-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) out of position with his guard down after a spinning attempt and perfectly placed a big left hook right on the Brazilian’s jaw. After Miranda fell, Charriere pounced and the fight was stopped nearly immediately, which sent the arena into pandemonium (via X):

After the win, Charriere led the raucous Paris crowd in a signing of “La Marseillaise,” the national anthem of France.

The victory returned Charriere into the win column after a split decision loss to Chepe Mariscal in April. For Miranda, the loss comes after his first UFC win, a submission over Shane Young in September 2023.

Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree start time at UFC 307

Alex Pereira will look to grow his legend status against  Khalil Rountree at UFC 307. This light heavyweight championship bout scheduled for five rounds is taking place Saturday, Oct. 5 at Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

Pereira (11-2 MMA, 8-1 UFC), a former middleweight champion, is trying for his third consecutive title defense at 205 pounds. He claimed the title vacated by Jon Jones in November 2023 with a TKO of Jiri Prochazka and this year has successfully defended against Jamahal Hill and Prochazka.

Rountree (14-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) is a surprise title challenger, who is only No. 8 in the official UFC rankings. Rountree enters on a five-fight winning streak, most recently beating Anthony Smith by TKO last December. Rountree was scheduled to fight earlier this year but was suspended for a failed drug test leading up to the fight. The failure was self-reported by Rountree and attributed to a tainted supplement blamed on the manufacturer, according to the UFC.

Here are the walkout times for the UFC 307 main event between Pereira and Rountree.

Raquel Pennington vs. Julianna Peña start time at UFC 307

Raquel Pennington and Julianna Pena will throw down for gold at UFC 307. This women’s bantamweight championship bout scheduled for five rounds is taking place Saturday, Oct. 5 at Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

Some heat has built up between the two ladies during fight week after Peña (12-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) trashed Pennington (16-9 MMA, 13-5 UFC) as a champion, prompting a response from the titleholder.

Pennington claimed the title vacated by the retired Amanda Nunes this past January at UFC 297 where she dominated Mayra Bueno Silva. Pennington is on a six-fight winning streak dating back to 2020.

Peña, on the other hand, hasn’t competed in more than two years, when Nunes reclaimed her title with a lopsided decision in their rematch at UFC 277. Peña had earned the title with a shocking finish of Nunes in December 2021 that was named Upset of the Year by MMA Junkie.

Morgan Gibbs-White: Nottingham Forest midfielder says being a dad has calmed him down

Gibbs-White, who joined Forest from Wolves in a deal which could rise to £42.5m in 2022, was speaking to BBC Football Focus last week, shortly after being sent off in the 2-2 draw at Brighton.

Gibbs-White and boss Nuno Espirito Santo have since been charged by the Football Association for acting in an improper manner and allegedly using abusive and insulting language towards match officials.

He conceded he could see why he was sent off but feels he cannot play any other way.

“If I’m at 70% or 60% going into a game, I can’t play like that,” he said.

“I have to be 150% all the time. I always have to be on it and I like the feeling of having control in a game.

“Sometimes when we’re playing City or someone and having none of the ball I get frustrated, but that’s when the control comes in and to understand what the manager wants from this moment.”

Gibbs-White has been included in the England squad for the Nations League games against Greece and Finland this month.

He made his senior debut in the 2-0 win in Ireland in September, having won the Under-21 European Championships last summer, and revealed the emotional impact the selection had.

He said: “When I received the call I was in bits, I was crying. As a kid you grow up dreaming of this moment, wanting it for so long and when you finally get it you feel like you’ve achieved something in life.

“Seeing the quality and standard was incredible. You can see why these players are at the top level.”
