Donald Cerrone says he’s returning to the octagon to get to 50 fights under the UFC promotional umbrella.

“Cowboy” said in an Instagram post that he wants two more UFC fights to hit that nice round number after retiring following his sixth straight loss at UFC 276. In the bout, Cerrone was submitted by Jim Miller on the July 2022 International Fight Week card.

Cerrone is winless in the octagon since a May 2019 win over Al Iaquinta in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 9, which at the time, extended a winning streak to three fights. Since then, he was stopped by the likes of Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, Conor McGregor, Alex Morono, and dropped a decision to Anthony Pettis.

The 41-year-old fought for the UFC lightweight title in December 2015 where he was stopped in 66 seconds by Rafael dos Anjos.

“I 100 percent prepared for that. I was so scared and nervous coming into this fight because I knew that it was going to take it out of me. I nearly threw up back there after I came out the octagon, so I knew that Dan’s that type of guy. You could hit him 1,000 times with so many bombs, and he’s just going to keep coming forward. … He’s had a lot of experience and I knew that it was going to be a very tough fight. I’m just glad that I could get the job done, to be honest. He was super strong in there, but somehow I pulled it off again.”

Haddon on being in exciting fights

“I’m exhausted. That was a f*cking back-and-forth battle. Like I said my last fight in the press conference when I was sitting up here: The moment I’m in a boring fight, Dana (White) can cut me, and I stand by that. Hopefully I can make some money in the process.”

“It’s the most active I think I’ve been ever in my MMA career, so it feels really good, actually, stringing them together like that. I guess now’s the time. Everyone has their time. I’ve had a few ups and downs and injuries and illnesses and people on the regional scene avoiding me and not fighting me. I’m not mentioning any names, but a lot of people didn’t want to fight me on the regional scene, and obviously (me being at the UFC level) is why. But the UFC, they want to push me and obviously I hope they like what they saw tonight, and hopefully I’ll be back in February. I hear there’s a card in Australia coming. I want to be on that one so I can bring all my fans from Australia. … A fight on Aussie soil? I’ll blow the roof off the place. I really will. That’s a dream, and hopefully they can book that for me.

“… I’m not the type of person to call people out. I feel like every bantamweight in the UFC, they’re here for a reason. They’re all great fighters. I don’t hate anyone. I’m not trying to pick out people. Just give us a name, I’ll most likely say yes, and it will be a banger on my behalf. I’ll bring a fight to anyone.”

Daniel Cormier hopes Nick Diaz shows up in shape against Vicente Luque.

Diaz (26-10 MMA, 7-7 UFC) returns against Luque (22-10-1 MMA, 15-6 UFC) in a welterweight bout at UFC 310 on Dec. 7 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPN2, ESPN+).

Diaz hasn’t competed since a TKO loss to Robbie Lawler in September 2021, when he looked out of shape in what was his first fight in more than six years. Diaz’s team later revealed he was dealing with a neck injury, which hampered his training camp.

“The thing about Nick Diaz, for me: I want the guy from the pictures, I’m going to just say it,” Cormier said on “Good Guy/Bad Guy” with Chael Sonnen. “I don’t want to see Nick Diaz that is just ripped. When he fought Robbie Lawler, I was so excited because I was like, ‘Man, he’s been back on the triathlons, and he looks even better than he did in his prime.’

“Then when he got to the octagon, he looked nothing like that person. He looked like a guy that was pushing 40, that hadn’t fought in many, many years, and I didn’t know if he still had that fight in him.”

Although Luque has lost three of his past four fights, Cormier still sees the once streaking contender as a stern test for Diaz. He worries that the former Strikeforce champion and UFC title challenger may tarnish his legacy if he doesn’t take Luque seriously and perform.

“Vicente Luque is thought to be on the decline,” Cormier said. “I kind of judged him based on how badly Joaquin Buckley beat him. But then now watching Joaquin Buckley do what he did to the kid that was 18-1 in St. Louis, doing what he did to Stephen Thompson, now I look back at Vicente Luque and wonder if I was too quick to judgment.

“Maybe I didn’t see how good Joaquin Buckley is as opposed to the state of Vicente Luque’s career. I still think that’s a lot for Nick Diaz. Nick Diaz struggled with Robbie Lawler, and Robbie Lawler was only one fight away from retirement. Vicente Luque is not going anywhere. It’s a tough fight. I think for Nick, though, he has to be really locked in if he wants to go out there and not embarrass himself.”

Alex Pereira defended his UFC light heavyweight belt with a hard-fought TKO victory over Khalil Rountree earlier this month in Salt Lake City, and making weight for the title bout required hours of sweat and hard work.

“Poatan”, a former UFC middleweight champion, posted a video on his YouTube channel showing behind the scenes footage of the final days of cutting weight for the bout, and then going all the way up to 228.2 pounds upon arrival at the Delta Center.

The video shows Pereira doing the face paint before the final face-off and relaxing on fight day, watching his teammate Cesar Almeida secure his second UFC win on the same card, defeating Ihor Potieria via decision, and his post-fight celebration.
