A FAN who died following a medical emergency while attending Bayern Munich’s Champions League match against Benfica has been named as a former international football manager.

Romain Jean was the former manager of Luxembourg women’s national football team.

The German club announced he died on the way to hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Jean had received emergency medical treatment in the Allianz Arena shortly after kick-off, which had been delayed by 15 minutes due to a signal box malfunction at Odeonsplatz metro station.

He was initially resuscitated multiple times by first aiders before being transported to the hospital under intensive care.

However, one hour after the final whistle, the club were informed that Jean had passed away.

A club statement said: “In the Champions League league phase match against Benfica, FC Bayern’s 1-0 victory was overshadowed by a sad occasion.

“A medical emergency in the stands of the Allianz Arena cast a shadow over the game right from the start.

“Out of consideration, the Südkurve (Bayern ultras) refrained from its usual vociferous support for their team, and the club also reduced its coverage of the match.

“Around an hour after the final whistle, the German record champions received the sad news that the fan had died on the way to hospital.

“FC Bayern is in mourning side by side with the fan’s relatives.”

Manager Vincent Kompany also paid tribute when speaking after the game.

He said: “We didn’t celebrate much after the game,” while also revealing that players only learned of Jean’s death when returning to the dressing room.

Jean served as the Luxembourg women’s team coach from 2006 to 2012.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said: “There are definitely more important things in life than football.”

An unspecified number of European Formula 1 grands prix face the prospect of hosting races on a rotational basis sooner rather than later, according to series CEO Stefano Domenicali.

With a record-breaking 24 rounds already crammed onto the F1 calendar, the scope for adding new venues is now arguably smaller than ever.

Domenicali has previously suggested rotating European races would be an option but now he has said such a move is on the cards.

“We have some news to share very, very soon with regard to the possibility in the mid-term to have some rotational European Grand Prix and some other new options coming later,” Domenicali said on a Liberty Media investors call.

“This is something that, of course, we will clarify in the due course. It is true that we have a large demand of new possible venues that want to come in and our choice will always be balanced between the right economical benefits that we can have as a system and also to leverage the growth on the market that we can see potential that will be beneficial for us to grow even further our business.”

Speaking at a Globant event during the United States Grand Prix, Domenicali named Argentina as a venue where he would like to see F1 return.

Including the Azerbaijan GP, there are currently 10 races in Europe, with Italy hosting two – Imola and Monza – and Madrid joining the calendar for 2026, while Barcelona’s contract expires at the end of that year. 

Recent reports claimed the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya would begin to share a spot on the calendar with the Dutch GP in Zandvoort, although the organisers of the race in the Netherlands distanced themselves from the idea.

One potential issue with Domenicali’s plan is the contracts already held by a lot of European circuits, while the financial future of some of those tracks is reliant on staging a round of the F1 season on an annual basis.

Silverstone, the Hungaroring and the Red Bull Ring have deals that run into the 2030s, for example, although Spa, Monza, Zandvoort and Imola are all up after next year. Monaco, too, is currently only signed on for 2025 but there is very little chance of one of F1’s most iconic races having to share its slot.

Conversely, with F1 currently riding high in terms of interest and revenue, plenty of venues are keen to get a slice of the action by getting their own race added to the calendar.

A second race in Saudi Arabia, at the Qiddiya Circuit currently under construction, a return to Africa with Rwanda mooted as a potential venue and the aforementioned potential Argentine GP comeback are just some of the locations that could be eyeing a spot if and when the European season is truncated.

The current Concorde Agreement, in place until the end of 2025, allows for 25 races a year in the F1 season – but Domenicali is happy with 24 for the time being

“We believe that the balance we have in terms of numbers is the right one, so 24 is the balanced number that we feel is right,” he added.

“I do believe that all the propositions that are coming on our table is just giving us the possibility to make even better choices for our future.

“So as always, we need to be balanced, knowing that we cannot follow only the pure direct financial proposition, because that is different from region to region, but it’s up to us to propose to our stakeholders the right choice.

“I think that we are in a good momentum to make sure that the strategy for the future is even stronger, and that’s why we are so confident about the fact that this will help to enhance our platform on the sport, on social and business perspective.”

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice is set to continue playing despite a broken toe.

Rice picked up the injury in Arsenal’s defeat by Newcastle and missed the Gunners’ loss to Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

However, the 25-year-old has been included in Lee Carsley’s 26-man-squad for England’s upcoming games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland, and there is optimism he will be fit for Arsenal’s game with Chelsea on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s side go into the match with their London rivals on the back of two 1-0 defeats.

Arsenal are seven points off the top of the table and have lost two of their past three games in the Premier League.

As the calendar flips to November, we come down the stretch for the back nine of the NFL season. 

Last week, we only saw one underdog win outright, as the Panthers beat the Saints. The chalk prevailed, after an early-season flurry of upsets. 

The signature performance of Week 9 was the Lions’ statement win in Green Bay. Detroit led the Packers 24-3 late in the game before a couple of late scores made it a 24-14 final — a score that did not reflect just how in control the Lions were from start to finish. 

With only one loss — a fluky, early-season defeat at home to the Bucs — the Lions not only look like the best team in the NFC but perhaps the best team in all the NFL. 

In the AFC, the Chiefs remained unbeaten, while the Ravens steamrolled a solid Broncos defense, as a rematch of last year’s AFC title game seems more and more possible every week. 

Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff all entered last week with single-digit odds to win the MVP. All four players led their teams to wins, leaving the odds fairly static, aside from a small tick up for Jackson (+250) and Goff (+600). 

While I don’t see a great bet in that market, there is another award bet that got my attention.

Joe Burrow To Win Offensive Player of the Year 100-1 (FanDuel)

Joe Burrow is quietly having an outstanding season, perhaps flying under the radar because of the team’s lackluster start to the year. 

But the team has played better as of late and is still around even money to make the playoffs. 

The MVP is typically reserved for quarterbacks who lead their team to 12 wins or more and capture a top-two seed. Burrow won’t fit that criteria in all likelihood, but is it possible he gets Offensive Player Of the Year?

This award has not gone to a quarterback in several years but did get handed out to a QB three times in a four-year stretch from 2105 to 2018. Burrow is heading into Thursday night’s game against the Ravens having already thrown 20 touchdowns and only four interceptions, giving him a realistic chance to throw for 40 touchdowns or more. 

To put that in perspective, Jackson won MVP last year with 24 TDs the entire season, Mahomes won it the year prior with 41, while Rodgers threw 37 TDs in his 2021 MVP season. 

Burrow might not have enough team success to win the MVP, but at 100-1, with his gaudy statistics, a long shot bet on him to win Offensive Player of the Year is an interesting and perhaps lucrative bet to make.

Brandon King and Keacy Carty blazed centuries to help the West Indies crush England by eight wickets in the third and final ODI, in Bridgetown.

Chasing 264 to win, opener King (102) and Carty (128 not out) put on 209 runs for the second wicket to seal the win and the three-match series 2-1. Evin Lewis was dismissed for 19.

West Indies had won the first ODI by eight wickets, while England won the second by five wickets.

Put into bat, England lost half their side for 94 runs. Opener Phil Salt (74) was the only top-order batter to be among runs, while Dan Mousley (57), Sam Curran (40), Jofra Archer (38) and Jamie Overton (32) played important knocks down the order to help England to a respectable total.

Pacer Matthew Forde took 3/35, while fellow fast-bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Romario Shepherd scapled two wickets each.

But, the West Indies team’s joy was marred by Joseph leaving the pitch after a disagreement with skipper Shai Hope. Ahead of the fourth over of the England innings, Joseph and Hope were seen having a heated discussion over a field placement. The pacer went on to dismiss Jordan Cox (1) off the fourth delivery, but stormed off the ground soon after his over.

Head coach Daren Sammy had to step in to cool things down. Joseph returned to the field an over later, but came on to bowl only in the 12^th over. He bowled two more overs, but left the field again misfields off his bowling, and then came back to finish his quota of 10 overs, giving away 45 runs.

Sammy did not mince words later when asked about the incident. “Behaviour like that is unacceptable on my cricket field,” Sammy told TalkSPORT. “We will be friend, but in the culture I am trying to build, that’s unacceptable. We will definitely have a chat about that.”

The five-match T20 series between the West Indies and England begins on Saturday.
