Paris Masters: Alexander Zverev beats Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach semi-finals
Alexander Zverev will face Holger Rune in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets.
German world number three Zverev defeated Greek 10th seed Tsitsipas 7-5 6-4 on Friday.
That victory made him only the third active player to reach 20 ATP Masters 1,000 semi-finals, joining Novak Djokovic (78) and Rafael Nadal (76).
Semi-final opponent Rune overcame Australian ninth seed Alex de Minaur 6-4 4-6 7-5.
Zverev, 27, is chasing his seventh career Masters 1,000 title and second of the season following his triumph in Rome.
He next faces a former Paris champion in Danish 21-year-old Rune, who won the tournament in 2022 by beating Djokovic in the final.
On meeting Zverev for a place in the 2024 final, world number 13 Rune said: “He is one of the best players this year, so I will have to be very well prepared and physically recover and build on the level from this match.”
Bulgarian eighth seed Grigor Dimitrov plays Russian Karen Khachanov after Frenchman Ugo Humbert takes on Australian Jordan Thompson in the remaining quarter-finals later on Friday.

Magnussen out for Brazilian GP, Bearman gets full race weekend
Kevin Magnussen will sit out the entire Brazilian Grand Prix weekend due to illness, with reserve driver Oliver Bearman remaining in the car until Sunday.
On Friday morning Haas announced that Magnussen would have to sit out the Friday running after being taken ill, and that he would be replaced by Bearman for free practice and sprint qualifying. That also meant Bearman would stay in the car for Saturday morning’s sprint.
But in a further update Haas has now confirmed that Magnussen won’t be in the car at all this weekend, with Bearman also taking part in Saturday qualifying and Sunday’s grand prix.
“Haas F1 Team can confirm that Kevin Magnussen will not compete in the São Paulo Grand Prix and Oliver Bearman will race for the team for the remainder of the weekend,” the team shared in a statement, with Motorsport.com understanding Magnussen’s symptoms are nausea-related.

Bearman acquitted himself well on Friday in his first-ever visit to Sao Paulo’s Interlagos circuit, taking third in free practice before advancing to the top 10 in sprint qualifying.
The Briton was on course for eighth place on the grid, but saw his SQ3 laptime deleted for exceeding track limits and will line up in 10th, ahead of experienced team-mate Nico Hulkenberg in 12th.
Bearman is set for his third grand prix start and his second for Haas, having already replaced Magnussen in Baku when the Danish driver served a one-race ban for accumulating too many penalty points.
The 19-year-old Ferrari junior, who has already been signed by Haas to step up to a full-time race seat in 2025, also deputised for Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in Saudi Arabia when the Spaniard was treated for appendicitis.
Bearman’s third start also means Haas will have to rethink its plans for the Abu Dhabi post-season test, which Bearman was set to take part in for his 2025 employer.
Drivers are not allowed to have started in more than two grands prix to be eligible to drive the team’s second car designated for rookies, while the teams’ other car is used by regular drivers for Pirelli tyre testing.

Mercedes star George Russell reveals how he LOST over £100k during his first season in F1 due to tiny salary
GEORGE RUSSELL has revealed he lost more than £100,000 during his first season in Formula 1.
The Mercedes driver, 26, is now the joint-fifth highest earning driver on the grid, raking in £14million per year.
But prior to his move to Mercedes in 2022, he spent three seasons with Williams.
The Brit’s debut year in the sport – 2019 – saw him finish 20th in the drivers’ standings without a point.
And he has now opened up about the tiny base salary he was earning at that time.
Russell was discussing new regulations which mean offences such as crossing the track could now carry fines of up to €1million – a significant increase on the €50,000 punishment Lewis Hamilton received last season.
Speaking as the chairman of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, Russell said: “I think it’s pretty ridiculous that a driver could be fined €1m.
“In my first year of F1, I was on a five-figure salary and actually lost over six figures in that first year from paying for my trainer, paying for flights, paying for an assistant.
“And that’s probably the case for 25 per cent of the grid.
“We’re doing what we love, so we’re not complaining about that.

“But if you take a year one driver who probably by the end of the year is losing over €100,000 because of the investments he has to make, you fine them a million, what’s going to happen?”
Williams were in a dire financial position in 2019, before Claire Williams sold the team to Dorilton Capital the following year.
Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto are their current drivers, but Carlos Sainz is leaving Ferrari to join Williams to complete their 2025 line-up.
Meanwhile, Russell sits seventh in the drivers’ championship, 12 points behind team-mate Hamilton.
He has one victory in 2024 and was stripped of another after his car was found to be underweight during a post-race inspection.
Next season, he will have a change of team-mates when Andrea Kimi Antonelli, 18, replaces Hamilton as the seven-time champion joins Ferrari.

Ian Machado Garry vs. Joaquin Buckley set for UFC Tampa main event
Ian Machado Garry and Joaquin Buckley will battle it out in the final fight of 2024 for the UFC.
The promotion announced on Saturday that Garry and Buckley headline UFC Tampa, which takes place Dec. 14 at Amalie Arena.
Both Garry and Buckley expressed interest in stepping in to face Shavkat Rakhmonov in the main event of UFC 310 for the interim welterweight title following Belal Muhammad withdrawing due to a toe infection, but instead the UFC matchmakers have decided to pair up the surging 170-pound contenders.
The undefeated Garry competes for the third time in 2024. “The Future” earned a split decision win over Geoff Neal at UFC 298 in February, and then handed Michael Page his first promotional defeat at UFC 303 in June. Garry is currently ranked No. 7 in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings.
Buckley, No. 10, is unbeaten since moving down to welterweight, winning all five of his 170-pound octagon appearances. “New Mansa” looks to make it 4-0 in 2024 after stoppage wins over Stephen Thompson and Vicente Luque, and a unanimous decision win against Nursulton Ruziboev. The former middleweight makes his 15th UFC appearance.
