Amy Wilson-Hardy alleged racist message – no RFU action
The Rugby Football Union says it will “take no further action” against Team GB rugby sevens player Amy Wilson-Hardy following an investigation into an alleged racist message.
A screengrab of what appeared to be a WhatsApp message from the 33-year-old appeared on Instagram during this summer’s Paris Olympics, with the person posting it alleging racism.
The RFU said Wilson-Hardy had “expressed great remorse” for the “historical private message”.
Wilson-Hardy played in Team GB’s quarter-final defeat at the hands of the United States but withdrew before GB’s final two placement matches against China and Ireland on medical grounds following the post.
The British Olympic Association initiated the investigation but after the Olympics finished it was then passed to the RFU.
“The RFU has investigated this case and will not be taking any further action,” read a statement from the governing body.
“Amy expressed great remorse for a historical private message with a former partner. She missed two games and has committed to undertake an inclusion and diversity awareness education course.”
Wilson-Hardy has also played 15-a-side rugby for England and played for Bristol Bears, Wasps and Ealing Trailfinders in Premiership Women’s Rugby.

Missed Fists: Groin-kicking duel overseen by Matt Brown in latest Fight Circus shenanigans
Welcome to the latest edition of Missed Fists where we shine a light on fights from across the globe that may have been overlooked in these hectic times where it seems like there’s an MMA show every other day.
Here at Missed Fists headquarters, we like to think that we’re above resorting to freakshow tactics to catch your eye, especially when there’s so much legitimate combat sports competition around the world. After all, far be it from us to shine a light on carnival attractions disguised as legitimate fighting endeavors. Us? Emphasize curiosities and oddities? Never.
All that said, sometimes you have to just get out of the way and let the voice of the people be heard.
And the people want to see fellas kicking each other in their wieners, apparently.
(Big thanks as always to @Barrelelapierna for their weekly lists of the best KOs and submissions, and to @Grabaka_Hitman for uploading many of the clips you see here. Give them a follow and chip in on Patreon if you can.)
Fight Circus
Yes, that’s two gentlemen voluntarily kicking each other in the groin. And yes, that’s UFC veteran Matt Brown overseeing the festivities, and seemingly having a great time with it.
Look, the Fight Circus folks surely aren’t the first degenerates in the world to host a good, ol’ fashioned Roshambo’ing, but they were bold enough to film this and put it out on the interwebs for all to see, so they deserve whatever notoriety is coming their way as a result. Innovators, as always.
From what I can glean, there are actually some rules here, as you can see that they’re not just straight toe-kicking each other in the yabos. This is clean shin-to-twins action, all above board. “The Immortal” surely wouldn’t let any shenanigans sully this potentially booming sport.
We can expect the full video to be released soon, perhaps as part of an upcoming Fight Circus release. Until then, just put these clips on loop, comfortable in the knowledge that, as many commenters have noted, this is still less dumb than Power Slap.
Ku Tae Won vs. Khun Krai
Before we get to the mixing of the martial arts, here’s Ku Tae Won scoring the most thrilling knockout of the weekend at a Fairtex Fight Muay Thai show in Thailand.
I don’t even know how one thinks to throw a strike like that in that situation, much less with such accuracy. Khun Krai clearly didn’t expect it either as he was left flattened for an uncomfortable amount of time.
Catch more Fairtex Fight action for free on YouTube.
Lina Narvaez vs. Yasmeli Araque
Juliana Otalora vs. Eliana Toledo
Our theme of the week is high kick setups (not, uh, low kicks between the legs) and we saw plenty of great ones, including this classic Muay Thai approach from Lina Narvaez.
She’s just tapping that toe, lulling her opponent into a false sense of security, and then BAM! Ya kicked. Narvaez followed with ground-and-pound to secure the finish, but I bet she could have walked that one off. I know I wouldn’t be trying to get up after eating a shot like that.
Earlier on the card, Juliana Otalora also scored a kick finish, but of the body variety.
Check the replay if you didn’t catch what happened at first. Otalora just drives her toes into Eliana Toledo’s stomach, almost impaling her with them. There’s a reason to stop fighting if I’ve ever seen one.
A replay Empire MMA 9 can be watched for free on YouTube.
Damien Deleon vs. Tristan Reyes
In an amateur bout at Xtreme Knockout 86 (replay available via TrillerTV pay-per-view) in Fort Worth, Texas, Damien Deleon spun Tristan Reyes around with a leg kick, followed with a right hand, and then unleashed a high strike that caused Reyes to crumble.
Deleon had so much energy left over that he had to run up both cage walls afterwards to burn it off.
Evgeniy Markov vs. Timur Tsopboev
You want a setup? How about a spinning kick into a spinning kick!
From a Russian Cagefighting Championship event in Yekaterinburg, Russia, Evgeniy Markov buzzed Timur Tsopboev with a head kick, clipped him with a leg kick, hurt him with a kick to the body, and then just fired a spin kick that Tsopboev circled right into.
Watch for the kicks, man!
Mostafa Abdo vs. Ibrahim Mahmoud
You know what the best setup of all is, though? No setup.
Very zen.
Mostafa Abdo touched gloves and then landed one of the most telegraphed head kicks I’ve ever seen to beat Ibrahim Mahmoud in three seconds. Then again, perhaps the genius of the maneuver is that it was so obvious that Mahmoud assumed there was no way that’s what Abdo was actually doing? That’s four-dimensional chess.
Catch a free replay of Evolution Championship 98 on YouTube.
Ernesto Schisano vs. Jhonata Vasconcelos
As far as punch knockouts go, it’s hard to beat Ernesto Schisano straight one-shotting Jhonata Vasconcelos at Way of Warrior 15 (replay available on UFC Fight Pass) in Madrid, Spain.
Watch how Vasconcelos inadvertently squares up his chin for Schisano during that exchange. It was tee-ball after that.
Osvaldo Gonzalez vs. Ethan Sims
Lastly, from Fight For It 22 (PPV replay available on their website) in Rock Hill, S.C., we have one for the “Don’t Call It A Comeback Because It Isn’t” department.
Osvaldo Gonzalez turned on the gas and though opponent Ethan Sims showed some serious heart, including a near knockdown of his own that was probably more of a slip, Gonzalez poured it on until Sims joined our list of rag dolls this week.

I’m 82, I worry about dementia
Sir Alex Ferguson is 11 years retired from one of the most notable, high-pressure footballing careers in history.
Now, he knows he’s in trouble if he doesn’t get at least 70% when he tests his general knowledge in a YouTube quiz.
It’s one of the ways the former Manchester United manager keeps his mind active, along with reading and listening to music.
Having seen a number of his close friends and colleagues suffer from dementia, Sir Alex admits the degenerative brain disease has started to frighten him.
“I’m 82, obviously I worry about it,” he told BBC Breakfast. “Generally my memory is quite good – pray the lord, touch wood it’ll stay that way.”
Sir Alex spoke to the BBC about the condition on National Playlist Day – an initiative started by the charity Playlist for Life, founded by BBC Scotland presenter Sally Magnusson.
The idea behind the campaign is to encourage people to create a playlist of music that reminds people of special moments in their lives.
Research has recognised the powerful impact music can have on those living with dementia, in terms of helping them connect with their past.
Top of Sir Alex’s playlist is Moon River, composed by Henry Mancini and originally performed by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Lyricist Johnny Mercer layered the famously nostalgic song with memories of his own childhood – so it’s perhaps no surprise it takes Sir Alex back to his days playing football at Harmony Row boys’ club in Govan.
He met some of his fellow players at nursery and they remain friends to this day. Occasionally, Sir Alex will treat them to a rendition of Moon River when they visit him.
“There was one time, I’m singing away at it – I’m in another world, my eyes are closed, I’m belting out,” he recalls fondly. “But they don’t listen to me.”
His singing ability, he concedes, perhaps don’t live up to his talents on the pitch.
‘She was leader of the band’
Also on his playlist is the theme from the 1939 film Gone with the Wind – My Own True Love, sung by Margaret Whiting.
It reminds him of his late wife Cathy, who he met in 1964 while they were both working at a typewriter factory.
Sir Alex said: “When I went to see Gone with the Wind I would be only 21, 22. We were courting at the time.
“She was a great wife, fantastic mother, a great grandmother. She was the leader of the band, no doubt about that.”
Of their 57 years together, Sir Alex managed United for 27 – and Cathy is said to have played a key role in persuading him not to retire in 2002.
Writing in his autobiography, he said she had told him: “One, your health is good. Two, I’m not having you in the house. And three, you’re too young anyway.”
Football clubs across the country paid tribute to her when she died last year.
It was also last year that Sir Alex attended the funeral of England and United legend Bobby Charlton – who he describes as his “great friend”.
In 2021, another friend from Old Trafford was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia – fellow Scot Denis Law.
Former England and United player Nobby Stiles, who worked as a coach under Sir Alex, had died from dementia the year before.
“It’s a present-day challenge for all of us,” said Sir Alex. “I think we [all] know someone close to us who has got dementia.”
“I think the main bearing on this is their family – we’re outside the door of it all.
“They’ve great wives, fantastic wives – and they’ve had to put up with all the burden of it.”

‘Special feeling’ for Philippe Clement as Rangers return to Ibrox
Part of the renovated Copland Stand will remain closed on Saturday evening as Rangers continue their defence of the trophy.
Clement remains without Ridvan Yilmaz, Rabbi Matondo and Danilo against Dundee, with Rangers also visiting Malmo in their Europa League opener on Thursday.
“I want to win everything,” added the Belgian. “That’s the goal of everything I do in life.
“I want to see that with my team as well. It’s another competition where you go full to have the victory.
“You cannot put priorities here. You cannot throw away any competition. All the competitions are important.
“I believe a lot in the potential of this squad.”

Harvey Skinner: Exeter fly-half aiming for England call-up
The fly-half position has been one of the most hotly-contested areas of the field for England in the past decade with the likes of Owen Farrell, George Ford and, latterly, Marcus Smith being the frontrunners for selection.
That depth of talent meant Skinner’s predecessor Simmonds – who led Exeter to a Premiership and Champions Cup double in 2020 – never received a call-up for England despite impressive performances at home and abroad for his club.
“When you play your opposite man who’s in that England shirt already I think it’s putting a marker down on them to say ‘I’m here, keep a look out’,” he said.
“I’ll have chats with the coaches to see if they’ve heard anything, how they think you can improve and what next steps you need to take.
“If you play well for your club you’re going to get talked about and you’re going to make it hard for them not to pick you.”
With the resurrection of the England ‘A’ side last season there were more opportunities for players of Skinner’s ilk to try and impress the England coaches.
Skinner was in contention for a call-up for the ‘A’ side, but was eventually overlooked.
But he says he would gladly take up the chance to experience a national team set-up.
He added: “Once you’re in that sort of environment they’re always going to be looking to see how you then adapt in that environment – are you going to flourish?
“So I’d like to be in that sort of environment playing well and showcasing what I’m about.”
