Reince Priebus, a former White House Chief of Staff under Donald Trump was criticising Harris’ recent appearance on US talk show The View.

The former chairman of the Republican National Committee was picking holes in Trump’s rival when he dragged up McIlroy’s collapse at the US Open in June.

Priebus said: “She wanted to clarify the two most important issues that are facing these two candidates – the US economy and immigration.

“She bombed like Rory at the US Open and said that there would be nothing that she would do that would be different to Joe Biden.”

Missing out on the US Open title was undoubtedly one of the most disappointing days in McIlroy’s career.

McIlroy was left utterly devastated after his last hole implosion made him narrowly miss out on the US Open to Bryson DeChambeau.

Holding a two-shot lead during the final round, McIlroy carded three bogeys across the final five holes – missing two putts from a combined distance of seven feet.

The Northern Irishman called it the “toughest day in 17 years” after he came within two shots of ending his 10 year major drought.

Inside Rory McIlroy’s whirlwind love life

RORY MCILROY enjoyed a high-profile romance with former tennis world number one Caroline Wozniacki before their split in 2014.

The following year, the golf ace began dating Erica Stoll, who he had first met on the PGA Tour in 2011.

Erica often interacted with players through her role as the PGA’s manager of championship volunteer operations.

She even prevented McIlroy from missing his tee time at the 2012 Ryder Cup after some confusion over the time zone.

The incident began a firm friendship between the pair, four years before their relationship turned romantic.

McIlroy and Erica were spotted on a string of dates in Rochester, New York, in the early days of their relationship.

Just eight months later, the couple got engaged in Paris and walked down the aisle at Ashford Castle in Ireland in 2017.

The pair then welcomed daughter Poppy into the world three years later.

Throughout their time together, McIlroy and Erica have kept their relationship to themselves, with the golfer keen to protect his family from the cameras during filming of Netflix’s Full Swing documentary series.

However, after seven years of marriage, McIlroy filed for divorce from Erica.

The reasons for the divorce were not disclosed, but the Northern Irishman submitted documents to a court in Florida.

However, a few weeks later, performed a U-turn on their decision to divorce.

McIlroy told the outlet: “Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

Responding to the random gibe, one fan wrote on X: “McIlroy catching strays while political pundits talk about Kamala Harris.”

A second said: “Rory McIlroy just caught an unnecessary / awesome stray.”

A third added: “Damn! Why is poor McIlroy being dragged into this?”

While another replied “We’ve reached a point in the election cycle where even McIlroy is catching strays.”

ONE is a notorious YouTuber-turned-boxer who has taken the sport by storm.

The other terrorised all in the ring in the 1980s and 1990s, famously biting the ear off an opponent in one fight.

Iron Mike has rebuilt his life after squandering a £300m fortune with a cannabis empire, and is a huge advocate of the drug.

And as Paul has continued to rise up the ranks, he has splashed the cash on a fleet of amazing cars.

Whereas Tyson had more money than sense until a £15m debt saw him part with his cherished car collection.

Paul now lives in a plush mansion worth £13m in Puerto Rico, after escaping his hectic life in LA.

But these days, Tyson lounges in his Vegas property he paid £2.5m for with wife Lakiha, who he married in 2009.

Paul is not yet married but is smitten with his speed skater girlfriend  Jutta Leerdam.

She will be by his side when her man puts his 9-1 boxing record on the line against two-time heavyweight champ Tyson on July 20.

Mike Tyson’s controversial comeback

Mike Tyson is BACK!

Yes, boxing’s youngest heavyweight champ of all time – just 20 when he achieved the feat – is preparing to lace them up again.

He faces YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on July 20 in Texas.

The controversial clash – set for the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Dallas – has been scrutinised over the 30-year age gap.

Tyson will be 58 by the time the fight for the ages comes around and nearly 20 years removed from his last professional contest.

He was last seen in the ring in November 2020 for an exhibition with fellow legend Roy Jones Jr, which ended a draw after eight rounds.

Paul is meanwhile 9-1 in the ring, losing only to Tommy Fury in 2023, and has won three times since.

His fight with Tyson will also be a landmark first on Netflix, with over 250MILLION subscribers able to watch the bout.

Dana White sounds off on ‘do-nothing motherf*ckers’ in UFC rankings panel: ‘The morons strike again’

Dana White, once again, is not happy with his own UFC rankings panel.

The UFC CEO has had an issue with the rankings panel for several months in regards to Jon Jones not being ranked the top pound-for-pound fighter despite not competing in well over 18 months. Additionally, White slammed his panel for having Max Holloway ranked seven spots behind Justin Gaethje in the lightweight rankings after Holloway knocked out the former interim champ to win the BMF title at UFC 300, and has been pushing for A.I. to take things over.

In the latest ripping of the panel, White used Khalil Rountree being ranked No. 8 after giving Alex Pereira a run for his money at UFC 307 earlier this month before getting knocked out in the fourth round.

“The morons strike again,” White said in an Instagram story. “Khalil Rountree fights that bad ass fight against Pereira, and the morons rank him No. 8 — keep him at No. 8.

“Literally this week, I have a meeting to try to fix the rankings, and get all these no-nothing motherf*ckers out of it. So hopefully this week I get this fixed.”

White will hopefully provide more details on his plans following Tuesday’s DWCS Season 8, Week 10 card.

Meyer Shank signs BMW, Cadillac talents for IMSA return with Acura

Published

on

Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly have joined Acura for its 2025 IMSA SportsCar Championship GTP campaign with Meyer Shank Racing after leaving Cadillac and BMW.

Two-time Daytona 24 Hours winner van der Zande has switched to the Honda brand after seven seasons with Cadillac, first with the Wayne Taylor Racing team with which he won the IMSA blue riband enduro in 2019 and ’20 and then Chip Ganassi Racing

Yelloly has made the move from BMW, which announced his departure on Monday, after six years as a factory driver, in which time he won the Nurburgring and Spa GT3 24-hour enduros and took a first IMSA win for the German marque’s M Hybrid V8 LMDh in IMSA last year.

He and Van der Zande will be the full-season drivers in one of the pair of Acura ARX-06 LMDhs fielded in the GTP class by MSR, which is returning to IMSA after a one-year break.

The other car will be shared by former MSR Indycar driver Tom Blomqvist and Colin Braun, who will reprise their partnership of 2023 that yielded a controversial victory at Daytona.

MSR was subsequently found to have manipulated information from its tyre pressure sensors, and was fined and given a points deduction but retained the win.

The team, which was out of contract with Acura at the end of the season, was not retained as Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti undertook a planned expansion to two cars.

WTR has now returned to Cadillac for 2025, which precipitated the return of MSR in conjunction with the Honda Racing Corporation USA organisation (formerly known as Honda Performance Development) that runs the Acura LMDh programme.

HRC US will take a deeper role in the running of the cars at the tracks and will be responsible for engineering one of the entries in 2025.

Van der Zande thanked Cadillac for “everything they have done for me over the past seven seasons”.

“Although it’s hard for me to leave, it’s time for a new chapter that I am really looking forward to,” he said.

“I’ve been racing against Acura for the past seven years and they’ve always been a fierce competitor, but I’m excited to now be on their side and tap into their resources and see what we can do.”

Yelloly also thanked his former employer for which he drove in the GTP ranks in 2023 and ’24 with the Rahal team.

“They were the first to give me a chance as a works driver back in 2019, and together we celebrated many great successes,” he said.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Acura MSR/HRC project. Clearly the team is very hungry and willing to push flat out, which sits well with me as I have the same type of mentality.”

Team boss Mike Shank said: “Putting Tom and Colin back in the driver’s seat just made sense. The two of them had an incredible season in ’23 and I think that’s just cracking the surface on what they can accomplish together.

“And then with the addition of Renger and Nick, they both have extensive prototype experience and have shown a lot of strength the past few seasons, so I think they will be a big asset to the team.”

Premier League postpones Manchester City legal meetings

Premier League postpones Manchester City legal meetings

The Premier League has postponed a key meeting of its clubs – originally scheduled for Thursday – that was intended to decide how to respond to last week’s verdict in the legal battle with Manchester City over rules governing commercial deals.

On Friday, chief executive Richard Masters warned clubs it was “taking the necessary time” to take stock of the ruling, and hinted at a possible delay.

BBC Sport has now been told that the meeting will instead take place early next week.

Meetings of its Financial Controls Advisory Group and Legal Advisory Group – due to take place on Wednesday – have also been delayed.

BBC Sport has been told the league hopes they will take place later this week.

Both sides claimed victory after the decision of an arbitration panel was published last Monday, following a legal challenge by City against the league’s associated party transaction (APT) regulations.

APT rules are in place to ensure sponsorship deals with companies linked to clubs’ owners represent fair market value.

City had some complaints upheld, with two aspects of the rules deemed unlawful by the tribunal.

The tribunal said low-interest shareholder loans should not be excluded from the scope of APT rules, and that changes made in February to toughen up the regulations also breached competition law.

In its initial response on Monday, the Premier League said the panel “endorsed the overall objectives, framework and decision-making of the APT system”, adding it would seek to amend its rules “quickly and effectively”.

But City then claimed the Premier League’s summary of the panel’s ruling was “misleading” and contained “several inaccuracies”, in an escalation of the dispute.

In a letter sent to top-flight clubs and the Premier League, City wrote that the rules were now “void”, that the club had “concern [over] the Premier League’s suggestion that new APT rules should be passed within the next 10 days”, and signalled possible further legal action if there was a “knee-jerk reaction”.

Shavkat Rakhmonov ‘a great code to crack’ for Belal Muhammad

Shavkat Rakhmonov ‘a great code to crack’ for Belal Muhammad

Mike Valle is excited for the challenge of helping Belal Muhammad hand Shavkat Rakhmonov his first loss.

Welterweight champion Muhammad (24-3 MMA, 15-3 UFC) makes his first title defense against Rakhmonov (18-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) in the UFC 310 headliner on Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPN2, ESPN+).

Valle knows what it’s like to coach underdogs to a world title, where he’s recently been in the corner for Muhammad’s title win over Leon Edwards at UFC 304, then Julianna Peña’s title win over Raquel Pennington at UFC 307.

“It’s a great challenge,” Valle told MMA Junkie. “It’s a great code to crack. I can’t wait for it. There’s all this hype behind him and he’s a great guy. He’s a great fighter, too. Belal is unreal, too. He’s the best in the world at fighting.

“And he’s the best in the world at going back, going sideways, putting pressure, not going to the ground. So it doesn’t matter where the fight may take place. He’s willing to go forward, go back, go to the side, fight on top, fight behind. It really doesn’t scare us. Whatever it is, let’s go.”

It’s been a long road for Muhammad, who had to go on a 10-fight unbeaten streak to finally earn his title shot. Valle says he knew from the start that Muhammad had championship potential.

“It’s been a journey with him, and whenever I saw Belal walk in for the first time in my gym, I told him, ‘Dude, you’re going to be a world champion,’” Valle said. “I mean that. That was the first time I saw him there: ‘You’re going to be a world champion’ because I saw something in his eyes and his work ethic. … He’s nonstop. It’s been a journey for him. He’s worked hard for that journey, and I’m so proud of him.”

Sir Alex Ferguson was earning more than five Man Utd stars including England international as ambassador salary is axed

SIR ALEX FERGUSON was earning more than five members of Erik ten Hag’s squad as a Manchester United ambassador.

The legendary former boss, 82, will no longer be paid for his ambassadorial role beyond the end of this season.

Shortly after retiring in 2013, Ferguson inked a deal for a new role worth around £2.16million per year.

As part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s cost-cutting measures, however, the Scot has been removed from his position.

The Ineos chief met with Ferguson in person to relay the decision.

SunSport understands that the iconic former United manager accepted the news amicably.

As per Capology, Ferguson’s deal had been worth more than those of five Man Utd players.

Among those were England regular Kobbie Mainoo, whose contract, inked in January 2023, is said to be worth £20,000 a week, a shade over £1m per year.

It was also worth more than deputy goalkeeper Altay Bayindir‘s contract, thought to be £35,000 a week, or £1.8m per year.

Amad Diallo‘s deal is said to be worth £1.5m a year (£28,800 a week), and is set to expire at the end of the season, although United possess the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

  • Club World Cup

Meanwhile, youngsters Dan Gore and Harry Amass are also claimed to be earning in the region of £5,000 a week, £260,000 a year, far less than Ferguson was on.

With Sir Alex set to turn 83 on December 31, his Man Utd ambassadorial role is just one of several time-consuming activities he will be stepping back from.

Phil Jones reveals how Sir Alex Ferguson convinced him to sign for Man Utd

This will not affect his ability to attend games, however, as he will always be welcome at Old Trafford – where he remains a regular.

Last month, it was revealed he Man Utd would be letting go of 250 employees at the club.

The cost-cutting measures come amid news that United’s losses over the last five years have totalled more than £370m.

Ineos’ cost-cutting methods have also seen private chauffeurs and company credit cards axed.

Staff and the players’ Wags even had to pay for their own transport to the FA Cup final win over rivals Manchester City in May.

And other perks like lunch, accommodation, extra tickets and a post-match party were also scrapped.

What we know about the ‘new’ Old Trafford

MANCHESTER UNITED plan to build a new stadium rather than redevelop Old Trafford.

The decision was made after a number of fact-finding missions to other stadiums including the Bernabeu and Nou Camp.

The cost of the project is expected to be a staggering £2billion.

A capacity of 100,000 is expected.

It is felt that a club of United’s standing should have a new state-of-the-art facility.

The new stadium will be built on land adjacent to the Red Devils’ current home.

United are looking to not only build a stadium but regenerate the area of Trafford where the ground will stand.

There had been plans to KEEP Old Trafford rather than demolish it, and use it as a scaled down second venue.

However, it’s looking increasing likely that it will in fact be entirely demolished.

The club consulted with 30,000 fans about what to do and believe there is roughly a 50-50 split on staying or moving.

The club have appointed the architects Foster + Partners to come up with a “masterplan”. The company were behind Wembley Stadium.

Old Trafford has been United’s home since 1910.

The target is for completion by 2030.
