Liverpool take on West Ham United on Sunday in the Premier League, as Arne Slot looks to put an end to a poor run of form – but both clubs have a number of injuries to work through
Liverpool are hoping to welcome back several key players from injury as they prepare to take on West Ham United in the Premier League this weekend. The Reds are set to make the journey to the London Stadium on Sunday, aiming to put an end to their recent poor form.
It’s been a season of disappointment for boss Arne Slot, with Liverpool currently enduring their worst run in over 70 years – having tasted defeat in nine of their last 12 games across all competitions. Consequently, the club find themselves languishing in 13th place in the Premier League table, with their hopes of defending the title they secured in May dwindling by the day.
Liverpool have also had to contend with injuries to several key players for much of the season, and it looks like it will be more of the same come Sunday. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at 10 players who could be absent for the Reds’ showdown with West Ham in the capital…

Several players are uncertain for this weekend’s clash. Hugo Ekitike managed 61 minutes against PSV Eindhoven in Liverpool’s midweek Champions League encounter, before being taken off due to a back injury.
The Frenchman has outshone marquee signing Alexander Isak this season, and his absence could be felt if he’s not fit for West Ham. However, if Slot’s remarks following the PSV game are anything to go by, then he could be ready to play.
The head coach revealed on Thursday: “They don’t expect that it has to be a big issue, but the games come fast, so let’s see for the weekend. But it shouldn’t have to be a big issue.”
Meanwhile, Alisson Becker has been side-lined since September’s clash with Galatasaray due to a hamstring problem. However, Slot shared that the goalkeeper has returned to training and could be in contention for this weekend’s match.
Florian Wirtz, who sustained an injury while representing Germany earlier this month, is also believed to have completed his recovery process and the attacking midfielder could make a comeback this Sunday. However, some of Slot’s squad members have been completely ruled out.
Jeremie Frimpong, who suffered a thigh injury during Liverpool’s 5-1 demolition of Eintracht Frankfurt in October, is not expected to return until mid-December, while Conor Bradley hasn’t played for his club since picking up an injury during the November international break with Northern Ireland.
He is also anticipated to be out until next month. Giovanni Leoni will also miss the entire season due to an ACL injury he picked up against Southampton in September.
Speaking about the centre-half in September, Slot said: “He is not in a good place because he tore his ACL, which means he will be out around a year. Being so young and coming to a new country and playing so well in your first game, it’s very hard to take the positives.
“But you try to look at that, and that is that he is still so young, and he has so many years still to go after he recovers.”
Liverpool aren’t the only team dealing with injuries this weekend. Nuno Espirito Santo’s Hammers squad is also missing a few key players.
Oliver Scarles has undergone shoulder surgery which will side-line him until late December, while Lukasz Fabianski’s return date remains uncertain due to a reported back problem. Crysencio Summerville and Konstantinos Mavropanos are touch and go for the match, with Santo revealing in his pre-match press conference on Friday that they would be assessed ahead of time.
