20 Players in World Football With Biggest Value Decrease in 2025

As 2025 draws to a close, footballers can likely be sorted into one of two categories — those who had years to remember and those who are hoping for better in 2026. And that’s been reflected in their transfer values.

Those who have fallen short of expectations have seen their valuation in today’s market plummet. But in the case of others from the Premier League, La Liga and beyond, they have seen their worth drop for different reasons, such as age or injury.

But who has had the biggest negative change in their market value in the last 365 days? Transfermarkt have tracked the 20 largest decreases in valuation in 2025, with several players seeing more than a few million desert them.

Biggest Transfer Value Decreases: 20-16

A whole host of players have seen their valuation drop by over £22m in 2025, with Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus propping up the list. The Brazilian has missed a large portion of football through an ACL injury, only recently returning to the pitch in December after missing 332 days of action.

Ahead of the 28-year-old is a trio of Premier League players whose importance to their respective clubs has tailed off in 2025. Ben White has seen the 19th biggest change this year, as the Arsenal man has gone from a regular fixture in the team to simply being a rotational option. Playing just 17 matches last season due to a multitude of injury issues, he’s only played 600 minutes of football in 2025/26.

Ahead of him is Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, whose value has dropped by £22m despite him still scoring consistently in claret and blue. And then comes Mohamed Salah, who found himself on the Liverpool bench as Arne Slot aimed to turn the club’s fortunes around. The Egyptian King was far from happy with the decision, but his decrease in value is mainly to do with his age, rather than the 33-year-old’s form, especially as it was only a matter of months ago when he claimed a record equalling fourth Golden Boot.

Juventus centre-back Bremer, while highly rated, only played eight matches for the Bianconeri in 2024/25 due to an ACL injury, before he then suffered a separate meniscus injury which kept him out for another two months in late 2025. That, consequently, has seen his value decrease by nearly 42% in 2025.

Two more players have also experienced a £22m drop in their valuations in the last year. Dusan Vlahovic is still 25-years-old, but the Serbian has struggled for form while at Juventus of late and is also out of contract in the summer of 2026. Fellow striker Harry Kane has had a similar drop in price due to his age but, having scored 48 times in 2025, the Englishman is still rated as one of the best strikers in the world today.

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has seen his market value fall by £26m in the last year, with the 26-year-old only estimated to be worth £22m in today’s market. And James Maddison has seen his valuation halve, something which has likely come about due to Tottenham’s dismal form last season which saw them finish in 17th place and the ACL injury which he sustained during pre-season, a knock which will likely keep him out of action for the entire term.

While at Liverpool, Darwin Nunez could never seem to make things click on a consistent basis. The Uruguayan never really found his feet at Anfield, scoring 25 league goals in 95 matches and missing several glaring opportunities. It was enough for the Merseysiders to let him leave for Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in the summer, and for his value to drop to £31m – a far cry from the £64m that the Reds paid for him in 2022.

Heading into the top 10, we have a series of talented players who have simply fallen short of the mark, along with one aging star. Eduardo Camavinga has typically been a reliable presence in Real Madrid’s engine room when called upon, but he only played 19 La Liga matches last term, something which likely played a part in his value dropping to £44m.

And while Liverpool might have broken the British transfer record to sign him, Florian Wirtz is seemingly no longer worth what he was back in the summer. His performances simply haven’t stacked up compared to what he was producing in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen, with his five goal contributions in 2025/26 seeing his valuation drop by £26m over the course of the year.

Victor Boniface had built a reputation in the Bundesliga for being a dangerous frontman, but things have not gone according to plan for the Nigerian international this year. After scoring just eight league goals for Bayer Leverkusen in 2024/25, the 25-year-old was loaned to Werder Bremen, where things haven’t gone much better. Having played 11 games without scoring for his new club, he picked up a knee injury in December 2025, which could result in additional time on the shelf.

Although he’s been a phenomenal technician in years gone by, Bernardo Silva is now 31-years-old and isn’t the same player he was a few years ago. Out of contract in the summer of 2026, he’s now only worth £24m in today’s market. That’s over £40m less than Martin Odegaard, who is just ahead of him, having dropped in value by £31m. The Norwegian has struggled for form and fitness at points in 2025, but considering how talented the Arsenal captain is, there’s every chance he can claw that back in the new year.

In 2023, Gavi was one of the most promising young players in the world before a disastrous ACL injury threw his career off course. He’s steadily worked his way back to fitness since then, but has now been out of action for most of the 2025/26 season because of another knee injury. Missing so much action has seen the Barcelona and Spain midfielder’s valuation plummet in recent years, with him now only worth £35m.

Ahead of the La Masia graduate are two players from his fierce rivals, Real Madrid. Having cemented themselves as the team to beat in 2024, this past year has seen Los Blancos’ levels dip a little. In that time, both Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior have gone from being two of the best players in the world to arguably simply being elite, which is reflected in dips to their market values today.

At the top of the pile, though, sit two players from Manchester City. Rodri, despite claiming the 2024 Ballon d’Or, has barely featured for Pep Guardiola’s side in 2025 due to him picking up an ACL injury in 2024. Having missed games from September until May 2025, he’s still working his way back to full fitness, having then picked up a new hamstring injury in late 2025. The Spaniard can’t catch a break presently.

Top spot, however, goes to Phil Foden. He might still have an estimated worth of £70m, but the England international had a season to forget last term. Having picked up the 2023/24 Premier League Player of the Season prize, the 25-year-old only managed nine goal contributions in the English top flight last term, which led to an astonishing drop in value of £52m. Now, though, he’s seemingly back to his best, and has established himself as one of the best players in the division once again. When the next refresh comes in early 2026, expect the Three Lions star to rise in value.
