3 Transfers West Ham Can Complete in January as Nuno Pushes for Adama Traore
Nuno Espirito Santo’s first three months at West Ham United have been underwhelming, to say the least. The Portuguese manager has failed to lift the London Stadium side out of the relegation zone since replacing Graham Potter in September, winning just three of his 12 games in charge.
With the Hammers struggling at both ends of the pitch – keeping just one clean sheet across 17 Premier League games while scoring only 19 goals – it has quickly become evident that new signings are needed in January to spark life into the squad.
To avoid a Championship return after 14 straight seasons in the top flight, West Ham are going to need to be active when the market reopens next month, and here are three signings that could provide a much-needed boost ahead of the second part of the campaign.
Promise David
Canadian striker Promise David has been heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium in recent months amid his standout 18-month spell in Belgium.
David has exploded since joining Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in 2024, scoring 36 goals and providing five assists in 67 appearances across all competitions.
He led the Belgian side to their first league title in 90 years last season and vaulted his way into the Canadian national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
A physically dominant and productive goalscorer, David has rightly earned the nickname ‘Baby Lukaku’ and could be West Ham’s ideal answer to Niclas Fullkrug’s impending departure.
The Germany international is set to join Italian side AC Milan next month on loan with an option to buy, finally putting an end to his dismal spell at the London Stadium.
Adama Traore
West Ham have been courting Fulham wide man Adama Traore in recent weeks, and it is hardly surprising given the pace, dribbling ability and energy he could inject into Espirito Santo’s often lethargic frontline.
According to journalist David Ornstein, the Hammers could come in with an offer for Traore next month with Espirito Santo really pushing for a reunion with the 29-year-old.
The Portuguese tactician signed Traore for Wolves in August 2018 and managed him for three seasons at Molineux, with Traore registering 131 appearances and 28 goal involvements during that period.
The Spanish winger is hungry for playing time after making just one start in Fulham’s 17 games this season, along with 11 more appearances off the bench.
Axel Disasi
Chelsea outcast Axel Disasi was eyed by West Ham during the summer transfer window and will be available again in January as he looks to end his disappointing chapter at Stamford Bridge.
The French central defender has been on the fringes of the Chelsea squad since returning from loan at Aston Villa and has yet to make an appearance under Enzo Maresca this term.
According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, Disasi will only be available to leave Chelsea permanently next month, and this is an opportunity West Ham should jump at.
This is considering Espirito Santo’s occasional use of three central defenders and West Ham’s lacklustre defending, having conceded 35 goals in 17 league games – the second most in the Premier League this season.
