5 tips for looking the part as a golfer

Published

on

This past weekend, I was on the golf course here in West Palm Beach, Fla. You see every type of player out there, but one thing is consistent — everyone is having fun. The outfits and swings certainly run the gamut.

There was one player I didn’t know, and when I first saw him, my immediate thought was: He looks like a good golfer. As it turns out, he was very good. But it reinforced something interesting. You can look like a golfer, even before you prove you are one.

Of course, that image can fade quickly if your game isn’t at least serviceable. Still, why not start by looking like you belong? Here are a few things to consider if you want to look the part.

1. A proper outfit

There are classic brands and timeless looks that define the golfer aesthetic. A clean, solid-colored pair of shorts or pants paired with a classic golf shirt and belt goes a long way.

Take a look at PGA Tour players. While styles vary, there’s always a polished, classic foundation. And yes, Rickie Fowler looked great in his bright orange era, but let’s face it, most of us aren’t Rickie Fowler.

When in doubt, simple and sharp always works.

2. Have decent equipment

Looking like a golfer doesn’t mean you need the newest or most expensive clubs. Many previous-generation models perform beautifully for years. Well-maintained, quality equipment sends a message. A classic Ping putter in your bag? That adds a little extra credibility.

3. Your bag matters

Your golf bag makes a statement — it’s one of the most visible pieces of gear you own.

While your bag should fit your needs, many better players prefer a lightweight stand bag. It’s easy to take off a cart, sits neatly on the range, and isn’t overly heavy when moving it to and from the car. Function and style can go hand in hand.

4. Logos don’t hurt

Recognizable logos on your shirt, belt, headcovers or bag can subtly elevate your look. When you get the chance to play a great course, consider picking up a shirt or belt. It’s a great way to remember the experience, and it doesn’t hurt when you wear it elsewhere.

We recently hosted our GOLF Top 100 Teacher Summit at Cabot Citrus Farms, and their logo made for fantastic holiday gifts for my family.

5. Focus on your setup

Ultimately, while appearance helps, solid fundamentals are the real proof. Good golfers have good setups. The good news? Even a new golfer can develop this with proper instruction.

With the right information and a bit of focus, you can absolutely look like a golfer before you even swing the club. And the truth is, you can often tell a golfer before they ever take the club back.

Kevin Durant not ruling out playing for Team USA in ’28 Games

Published

Olympics: Basketball-Women Semifinal - USA-SRBAug 6, 2021; Saitama, Japan; USA men’s team player Kevin Durant looks on as the United States play Serbia in the women’s basketball semifinal during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games at Saitama Super Arena. Mandatory Credit: Kareem Elgazzar-Imagn Images

If Team USA calls Kevin Durant for a shot at his fifth Gold medal in the 2028 Olympics, he plans to be ready.

Durant will be 39 in 2028 when Los Angeles hosts the Summer Games. Only women’s stars Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird, with six and five gold medals respectively for Team USA, have won more golds in basketball than Durant.

“Hell yeah, I want to play,” Durant said. “I would love to, but I’ve got to stay on top of my game. I’m not expecting, I want to produce on the floor and make (USA Basketball president) Grant (Hill) and whoever is making the decisions, want to put me on the team. I don’t want — not just for seniority. I want to still prove I can help the team win. Today, yeah I feel like I’ll put my name in that hat.”

The self-described gym junkie said if he remains effective on the court as age 40 approaches, there is no reason he wouldn’t be open to another run in the Olympics despite a working narrative that LeBron James, Steph Curry and Durant were all unlikely to be back with Team USA. Curry turns 38 next month. James is 41.

“You guys, the media, have projected that. I didn’t say I wasn’t playing. LeBron said he wasn’t,” Durant told ESPN. “You didn’t hear that from me or Steph.”

Durant told ESPN he views the criticism of American basketball being “ruined” by Curry or the AAU style of play as a racial critique.

“I just don’t like the talk around the USA versus European style of how you approach the game,” Durant told ESPN. “All I hear is, ‘AAU is destroying the game, the Euros do it right while the Americans do it wrong.’ It’s a lot of bulls– with that. I can read between the lines on that. It’s a shot at Black Americans. We’re controlling the sport. They’re tired of us controlling the sport. ‘France is coming for you.’ Really? We smacked them boys.”

Suspended player sues WTA for $20M over steroid ban

Published

Britain's Tara Moore Handed 4-Year Anti-Doping BanBritain’s Tara Moore in action during her round of 32 match against Britain’s Heather Watson at the 2021 Nottingham Open.

Suspended WTA professional Tara Moore of Great Britain filed a $20 million lawsuit in New York claiming her positive test for steroids in 2022 was because of contaminated local meat served during an event in Colombia.

Moore, 33, was given a four-year suspension after testing positive for two different steroids at the Colombia event. The lawsuit references “concrete, actionable knowledge” the WTA has regarding meat at certain tournament locations that might contain banned substances.

The lawsuit comes as this week’s ATP Mexican Open eliminated local meat at its player restaurant over contamination fears. Last week, the International Tennis Integrity Agency cleared three players who tested positive for the steroid boldenone during an event at Colombia in May.

The substances boldenone and nandrolone appeared in Moore’s positive test in 2022.

U.S. fans, some with signs, waited for their arrival into the terminal with bated breath – and when they did, jubilation.

Jack Hughes, Auston Matthews and Matthew Tkachuk showed off their gold medals to the cameras.

“We’re gonna celebrate for a few days,” Hughes told reporters at the airport.

The team will go to an upscale restaurant for dinner before continuing their celebration at one of Miami’s famous clubs.

Trump invited the team to his State of the Union address, which is set to take place on Tuesday.

“I’ll tell you what. I just told my people two minutes ago, I didn’t know they’d be calling, I said we’re giving the State of the Union speech on Tuesday night,” Trump said. “I can send a military plane or something, but if you would like to, it’s the coolest night, it’s the biggest speech …”

One player cut off Trump and said, “We’re in.”

“We’ll get Kash, and we’ll get the military to get you guys over,” Trump continued. “You won’t have to worry about the weather or landing. We don’t care if it’s snowing or if it’s the worst blizzard – we’ll be sailing through like you did on the ice.”
