Age, Weight, Height & Boxing Record
One of the most bizarre fights in heavyweight boxing history has been confirmed for the 19th of December as social media superstar Jake Paul takes on former two-time world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua. The bout will be streamed live globally on Netflix and takes place at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.
The same venue had been due to host Paul’s planned exhibition against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis on November the 14th. However, Team Paul pulled the plug on the fight less than two weeks before it was due to happen after the WBA Lightweight Champion was hit with charges relating to domestic violence.
At the time of the cancellation, Paul insisted that he would be back in action before the end of the year. Few, though, expected ‘The Problem Child’ to challenge himself against an opponent such as ‘AJ’, who is legitimately one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of his generation.
Shortly after the fight was officially announced, the rules for the contest also emerged. It soon became apparent that there would be no exhibition rules in place, as promoters termed the bout a “a professional heavyweight fight”.
Ahead of Paul vs Joshua, here is everything you need to know about the two men who will step into the ring.
How Old are Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua?
One of the few areas in which Paul enjoys any sort of advantage over Joshua is his age. Born on the 17th of January 1997 in Cleveland, Ohio, Paul is 28 years old.
Meanwhile, Joshua, who was born on the 15th of October 1989 in Watford, is 36. This means Paul is eight years younger than his adversary when they meet. It remains to be seen whether Jake’s youth will help him overcome the disadvantages he faces in other areas.
How Much Do Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua Weigh?
The nature of boxing means that fighters’ weights often fluctuate from bout-to-bout. In his last outing back in June, Paul came in at 198.5lbs for his cruiserweight contest against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. In his sole outing at heavyweight (vs Mike Tyson last November), ‘The Problem Child’ weighed 228.5lbs.
Joshua, meanwhile, came in at 252.25lbs for his most recent fight. However, he won’t be able to do the same against Paul. This is because there is a clause in the contract for the fight that requires ‘AJ’ to weigh no more than 245lbs for the December clash.
While Joshua will be forced to hit the scales at less than he has in his recent fights, the 245lbs limit shouldn’t be a major issue for the Londoner. He weighed less than that mark for both of his world heavyweight title tilts against Oleksandr Usyk.
How Tall Are Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua?
When Paul and Joshua went nose-to-nose at the first official press conference for their fight, one thing was immediately apparent and that was the considerable height difference between both fighters. Jake is no small man, but Joshua still towered him.
Officially, Paul stands six-foot, one-inch tall (185cm), whereas Joshua is six-foot, six-inches tall (198cm). That equates to a five-inch height advantage for the former unified heavyweight champion.
Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua’s Boxing Records Compared
Although each of the comparisons mentioned above are worthy of note, the true gulf between Paul and Joshua comes in the form of their boxing records. Before even considering the professional ranks, ‘AJ’ already has a huge advantage by virtue of his pedigree as a decorated amateur. He reached the top of the unpaid ranks after winning an Olympic gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics.
Since turning professional in 2013, Joshua has fought 32 times (28-4, 25 KOs), with 13 of those contests being for a world championship. Paul, meanwhile, has just 13 fights in total (12-1, 7 KOs) since turning pro in January 2020.
Of those 13 fights, only three have come against recognised boxers with any degree of name value. Paul met undefeated Tommy Fury in February 2023, and lost for the only time in his career. Then, in November 2024, he defeated heavyweight legend Mike Tyson via unanimous decision. While the name of ‘Iron Mike’ is a big one for Paul to have on his record, Tyson was 58 years old at the time and some 30 years past his prime.
Another Paul opponent who was well past his best was Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, who Jake beat in his most recent bout. The former world champion barely threw a punch in the first half of the fight as Paul secured a points victory in underwhelming fashion. The majority of the remainder of the social media star’s victories have come against former UFC stars such as Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz, Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley (twice). Although these men were seriously tough inside the Octagon, they – in most cases – were not trained boxers, and it showed.
Joshua’s own resume could read more differently to that of Paul. He may not have a flawless record, but the Brit has mixed it up with some of the best heavyweights of his generation.
Among Joshua’s best wins are triumphs over Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker, Alexander Povetkin and Dillian Whyte. Each of those wins are considerably more impressive than anything Paul can boast. While he suffered devastating knockout defeats to Andy Ruiz Jr and Daniel Dubois, Joshua held his own with the brilliant Usyk across their two fights, where he lost on points twice.
Paul’s resume would be questionable even if he was fighting a genuine boxing novice. Given that Joshua has twice reigned as world heavyweight champion, the gap in class between the two fighters, at least on paper, is simply vast.
