American heavyweight throws his name into the mix for Tyson Fury’s comeback fight

Tyson Fury’s return to professional boxing has been confirmed and a host of heavyweights are jostling for the opposing corner. Now, a new contender has thrown their hat into the ring.

Fury announced his retirement after losing his world title and undefeated record with consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, but as this was Fury’s fifth retirement, the news was taken with a pinch of salt.

Now, ‘The Gypsy King’ has once again u-turned on his decision to hang up the gloves and the 37-year-old is poised to return to action this spring, as he sets about his goal of becoming boxing’s fifth three-time heavyweight ruler.

At present, Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov seems to be the frontrunner for Fury’s comeback, after ‘The Lion’ claimed victory on British soil by outpointing Dave Allen back in October.

However, in an interview with Inside The Ring, New York’s Jarrell Miller admitted his interest in a potential meeting with Fury, despite the short turnaround he would presumably face due to his upcoming fight at the end of the month.

“Tyson Fury is my homie, he is coming back, and I would love to scrap with him.”

It would not be Miller’s first run-in with a British heavyweight. He was due to face Anthony Joshua back in 2019 before failing doping tests saw him removed from the card. The 37-year-old did make it to the ring against Daniel Dubois in 2023, losing by tenth round stoppage. A draw with Andy Ruiz Jr followed in 2024, though many felt Miller did enough to win.

He will hope for a first victory since 2023 when he takes on Kingsley Ibeh at Madison Square Garden on the Teofimo Lopez vs. Shakur Stevenson undercard on Saturday, January 31.
