Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua finally confirmed for next year under one condition

Amir Khan has changed his mind on a potential tussle between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, making a major U-turn on his original fight prediction.

While a matchup between the two heavyweights has been spoken about for quite some time, it is now, once again, beginning to seem like a realistic proposition.

In reality, there are still several stumbling blocks, especially with regards to the negotiations, that could once again prevent their showdown from materialising.

But still, with Fury teasing a return to the sport, and ‘AJ’ having stopped Jake Paul in the sixth round, perhaps the two Brits will finally square off in 2026.

It looks like Joshua must first come through his expected assignment in February, when the two-time world champion should encounter a far greater challenge to what he experienced last Friday.

Fury, meanwhile, has not fought since suffering a second points defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024, with the announcement of his retirement arriving soon after.

But ‘The Gypsy King’, perhaps unsurprisingly, has since claimed that he remains eager to make a spectacular comeback before facing his domestic rival at some point next summer.

Like Joshua, Fury will look to have an interim fight in the first quarter of 2026, with it being over a year since his last outing by the time he returns to the ring.

For this reason, Khan, who previously picked Fury to beat Joshua, has told Daily Mail Boxing that Joshua’s greater activity, albeit against Paul, could make their possible clash a far more competitive spectacle.

“Because Tyson’s been a little bit inactive, [he] may need one or two fights to get back into it.

“Before, I would’ve said Tyson, but now I would say it’s a 50/50 fight because ‘AJ’ has kept himself busy. Whereas, [with] Tyson, having that layoff does sometimes take it out of you.”
