Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed that midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a concussion during Wednesday evening’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.
The Uruguayan midfielder collapsed on the pitch during the first half of the match, causing significant concern among players and spectators.
Bentancur was taken to hospital for medical examinations following the incident but has since returned home.
The 27-year-old fell to the ground with no players around him, prompting immediate concern from his teammates.

Pedro Porro was the first to reach Bentancur in what Postecoglou described as “a distressing situation”.
Medical staff attended to the midfielder for nine minutes on the pitch before he was stretchered off to applause from both Tottenham and Liverpool supporters.
Speaking about Bentancur’s condition, Postecoglou said: “Good news, thankfully. He was in the hospital and they did all the tests, just checking everything’s okay, and all good, he’s back home and he’s fine, he’s feeling good.”

Spurs went on to secure a 1-0 victory in the first leg through Lucas Bergvall’s 96th-minute strike, inflicting only Liverpool’s second defeat of the season in all competitions.
Tottenham return to action this weekend when they face National League side Tamworth in the FA Cup.
They will be hoping to win the competition for the first time since 1991, when they beat Nottingham Forest to secure glory.

The midfielder had previously served a seven-game ban for an alleged racial slur against teammate Son Heung-min during a TV interview in Uruguay.
Though he apologised for his remarks, and for any offence caused, he was still slapped with a ban with the FA choosing to come down hard on the former Juventus star.
