Angry Kylian Mbappe snaps after being asked about 'Mbappedependencia'

Kylian Mbappe angrily denied suggestions Real Madrid were overly dependent on his goals after netting four times in the 4-3 win at Olympiacos last night.

The France striker was at his brilliant best in Athens, combining superbly with Vinicius Jr to power the visitors to a much-needed three points in the Champions League.

Mbappe has scored 22 goals in 18 games this season and has been a shining light in a season of inconsistent performances under Xabi Alonso.

He was asked by Radio MARCA if Madrid have a ‘Mbappedependencia’ and replied: “I think this question shows a lack of respect from you and is a bad question. Everyone has their job in the team and my job, normally, is to score goals.

“Without the other players we don’t win the game. I don’t think there’s a dependence or anything like that. It’s more a thing for journalists or people from the outside.”

No dependancy on me – Mbappe

Mbappe failed to score in the last three Madrid games – a 1-0 defeat at Liverpool, a goalless draw at Rayo Vallecano and a 2-2 draw at Elche at the weekend – none of which ended in a win.

When this was put to him, Mbappe replied: “Yes, but you don’t have to say it’s a dependence, you have to say that Kylian is one of those responsible because we haven’t won and because my job is to score goals… not dependence.

“That’s what you have to say. You have to say that Kylian has not scored and that Kylian has to score.”

Madrid win but issues still remain

The win was a relief for Alonso but Madrid were far from perfect. A makeshift defence looked particularly suspect and offered far too much space for the home team.

“I want to value the most important thing, the three points; vital not only for the classification, but for breaking a little the dynamics of three games without winning, because we weren’t feeling good,” the Madrid boss said.

“The game has had all kinds of moments.”

Asked if the win had eased the pressure on his shoulders, Alonso replied: “Not really. I take things much calmer than you think.”
