Anthony Joshua says he would be willing to ‘kill’ Jake Paul in chilling warning to American underdog
Anthony Joshua says he would be willing to kill Jake Paul when they meet on Friday.
The fight that pits a two-time former world heavyweight champion against a YouTuber-turned-boxer has come in for heavy criticism with many claiming it is a total mismatch that threatens Paul’s safety.
Asked if any part of him would be willing to go easy on the American, Joshua told reporters: “Zero part of me. It’s not just that it’s Jake. I was actually looking at myself today, I’m a very respectful guy brought up by a good family. But if I can kill you, I will kill you.
“That’s just how I am and this is just the job I do, so let’s go.
“I’m carrying boxing on my back, I did it with the Francis Ngannou fight and I’m doing it again.
“I understand the expectation, I don’t carry it because the expectation I have on myself is enough but I acknowledge it, I understand it and I respect it.”
Paul confident of creating massive upset
Paul has won 12 of his previous 13 professional bouts but has not yet got into the ring with someone of Joshua’s size and status.
“I got to give him [Paul] respect, because I’m f—— ready,” added Joshua.
Paul is confident he can spring what he described as the ‘biggest upset in sports history’.
“One of us is going to sleep. That’s what we’re going to do here,” he said. “That’s what this heavyweight fight’s about. All glory to God. Thank you God, thank you Jesus for this moment. I’m so grateful for everybody.
“I started my boxing journey here in Miami. We’re bringing it back and I’m going to shock the world and pull off the biggest upset in sports history.”
