Early reports suggest that Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, Nigeria. The incident, which occurred in the Makun area of the expressway, resulted in the death of two people.
According to local reports, the vehicle transporting Joshua collided with a stationary truck on the highway. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said the accident occurred near a filling station shortly before the Sagamu interchange on the Ibadan-bound section of the road. Motorists and emergency responders reportedly made efforts to rescue victims immediately after the crash.
Joshua is said to have sustained minor injuries in the accident and was attended to by emergency personnel. However, two other occupants involved in the incident are being reported as dead at the scene.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps were present at the location to manage the aftermath of the crash. As of the time of reporting, no official statement had been released by the police or other government agencies.
Joshua was in Nigeria following his sixth round stoppage win over Jake Paul, and was taking a short time off before preparations begun for a February or March return. Social media videos from the scene show the former two-time unified heavyweight champion in pain as he is helped from the wreckage.
