Mikel Arteta looks on.

Arsenal will have been impacted by two major updates arriving on Thursday night, as January’s transfer window deadline edges closer for Premier League clubs.

Arsenal are set to announce two January transfers – even with focus mostly on the summer window. Sporting director Andrea Berta negotiated several excellent deals to help bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad this past summer, which has meant outgoings are the priority this month.

Finding minutes for Ethan Nwaneri looked to be a priority ahead of the trading period, but it soon emerged he would instead be staying put. That was until Arsenal seemingly found the perfect loan at Marseille with Arteta a fan of Roberto De Zerbi’s style – plus the former Brighton manager wanting to play him as an attacking midfielder.

Elsewhere, Oleksandr Zinchenko is set for a permanent transfer to Ajax, with his Nottingham Forest loan being cut short. Though significant recruitment was completed ahead of the current season Berta is, almost certainly, always looking at unique market opportunities.

Talents for the future are likely monitored throughout the year with one of those sending a dream message to Arteta. Arsenal have, very rarely, missed out on signings during the Spaniard’s tenure, but one player they were unable to sign could be making a shock move to Chelsea

With all of that being said, Mirror Football has rounded up the latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours in the January window.

Wonderkid sends perfect transfer message

Arsenal transfer target Vasilije Kostov has sent the perfect message with the winning goal for FK Crvena Zvezda in their Europa League clash against Malmo. Arsenal scouts were in attendance for that midweek clash – according to football.london.

For his goal, the 17-year-old midfielder, who has been dubbed the ‘Bulkan Barella’, was picked out at the back post and slid home to help his side move up to tenth in the league standings.

There’s also interest from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund with the latter also sending scouts to Serbia on Thursday evening. Red Star Belgrade’s general director, Zvezdan Terzic, has since issued a clear update on Kostov.

He told football.london: “I can’t talk about exactly who has called, but we have already received an offer worth €20million (£17.45million) for him. Of course [he can play in the Premier League], but not just any team – he could play for one of the big six clubs.”

Shock move ‘considered’ for ex-Arsenal target

Chelsea are considering a loan move for Douglas Luiz with the midfielder currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus. That’s according to The Athletic.

The Brazil player is out of favour under Sean Dyche with his performance in the defeat to Braga likely not helping matters. Chelsea currently have limited options in midfield with Moises Caicedo rarely rested if available and Enzo Fernandez utilised further forward as Cole Palmer’s minutes are managed.

Arsenal tried to sign Luiz when he was at Aston Villa – with three bids rejected in 2022’s summer transfer window. He joined Juventus two years later, although his spell in Italy did not go to plan which was why he returned to the Premier League on a temporary basis last summer.

If the move does go through, he would be ineligible to take on Arsenal in the Carabao Cup second leg at Emirates Stadium.
