Arsenal winger Ethan Nwaneri to join Marseille on loan

Arsenal winger Ethan Nwaneri is on the verge of joining Olympique Marseille on loan, according to Fabrizio Romano. The deal will not include a buy option, which means the 18-year-old is expected back in North London at the end of the season. The Gunners should receive around €4million in the form of a performance-based loan fee. The Ligue 1 side will also cover the player’s salary entirely during his time there.

The agreement between the clubs was reached after Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi spoke with Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and presented his plan for Nwaneri, who has also accepted the move.

Final details remain to be ironed out, but Nwaneri should arrive in Marseille on Wednesday to complete his medical.

Nwaneri hasn’t seen much game time this season, with Arsenal’s squad well-stocked in the attacking areas. Preferring to play on the right, he obviously found it hard to compete against Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke for a place in the team.
