Arsene Wenger Goes Viral for Post-Match Comments
In the wake of Arsenal’s 3-2 loss to Manchester United, Arsene Wenger has given his thoughts on the result. And the former manager’s comments have gone viral on social media.
Wenger’s former side took the lead on the day after an own goal from Lisandro Martinez, but then found themselves trailing after strikes from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu. Although they levelled proceedings through Mikel Merino, substitute Matheus Cunha ensured that Michael Carrick’s side left the Emirates Stadium with all three points.
In spite of their defeat, Arsenal remain four points clear of both Manchester City and Aston Villa in second and third place respectively, although they will rue a missed opportunity to stretch their lead at the Premier League’s summit. United, meanwhile, rise up to fourth following Sunday’s victory.
‘Embarrassment to This Club’ – Arsenal Fans Turn on Key Player After 3-2 Defeat vs Man Utd
Arsenal dropped valuable points in the Premier League title race against Manchester United – and one player was particularly poor.
Despite the difference in league position and points total, Sunday’s game proved to be a tense match-up between two evenly matched teams. But Wenger, while analysing the game for beIN Sports, believes that there were noticeable differences between how Arsenal and United’s setup.
He said: “I would say the goals scored on both sides illustrated a little bit the way the two teams played. Man United built up well and had good cohesion, and Arsenal’s goals were decided more by power and fighting on the corner for the second, for example, and the first goal too — it was not clean play.
“They gave everything, Arsenal, but they lacked a bit of patience and technical cohesion, which Man United had. I think there is something going on in this Man United team between the way they beat Man City and they beat Arsenal today. The way they played was very convincing.
“When Arsenal came back to 2-2, usually it’s the home team that wins the game. And they found the resources again to score the third goal and to win 3-2 away from home in a top level game.
“So I must congratulate Carrick, he has created something.”
Wenger’s comments about both teams have since gone viral on social media, with them provoking several reactions from both sets of supporters. Many United fans have acknowledged the classy reaction from the legendary ex-Arsenal boss, with one writing: “Top class from Wenger congratulating Carrick.”
Those thoughts were echoed by someone else, who said: “Class from Wenger to congratulate Man Utd.” And one more stated: “Michael Carrick has turned Arsene Wenger into a United fan.”
But others have interpreted the comments in a different way. Some believe that his words about Arsenal’s style of play are an indication that he dislikes the style of football played by Mikel Arteta’s team.
One supporter wrote: “Wenger vomiting blood watching this team play.” And someone else added: “‘The goals scored on both sides illustrated the way both teams played’. It’s clear he doesn’t rate Arteta’s footy.”
A Man United supporter added: “Their greatest ever manager praising OUR manager says it all.” While someone else stated: “He watches Arsenal with disgust.”
Someone else wrote: “He’s definitely sick of watching Arteta ball.” And a final supporter drew the same conclusions, saying: “Fouling and manhandling players/gk on corners and in the box leading to chaos to give them those set-piece goals is like anti-Wenger, that man used to play Arsenal like Barca. He must be fuming at this.”
