Ashley Young has made it clear he’s unhappy after being denied the chance to play against his son, Tyler, in Everton’s 2-0 win over Peterborough on Thursday night.

The Merseyside giants won 2-0 at Goodison Park, just hours after Sean Dyche was axed.

Beto opened the scoring for Everton in the 42nd minute, with Iliman Ndiaye then doubling their advantage in the closing stages to make the result safe.

Prior to the clash, all the talk had been about Young potentially facing his son, Tyler, who plays for Peterborough.

Yet that dream wasn’t realised on Thursday, with Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson choosing to leave Tyler Young on the bench for the entirety of the contest.

Young has now taken to social media, with the veteran simply writing: “GUTTED……”

Many were quick to agree with Young’s assessment, with fans understanding of his disappointment.

“Have to feel sad for Ashley here,” wrote one user.

“The reality is that he is coming to the end of his career.

“This was probably the last and only time he could be on the same pitch professionally with his son.

“Football is ALL about sentiment, which is why we follow our clubs in the good and the bad – no sentiment was shown towards the Young family.”

A second said: “Out of order mate, no harm in throwing him on for last 10.”

“Disgraceful from the manager. Tyler should have come on the pitch,” were the words of a third user.

Another stated: “Sorry mate! Definitely wish you played against your son.”

And a fifth said: “I’m furious and disgusted, Ferguson could have made history and given your lad the memory of a lifetime, and he could have changed the game for them! The whole footballing world was desperate for it to happen! Bring him to Everton Ash, he’ll thrive under Bainesy!”

Peterborough boss Ferguson was asked about his controversial decision following his side’s FA Cup exit.
