Aston Villa Eyeing Move for Harry Wilson After Tammy Abraham
Aston Villa could win the race to sign one of the Premier League’s most exciting wingers in Harry Wilson, according to reports – with the Villans taking on a serious interest in the Welshman after his contract talks stalled at Fulham.
Wilson has been in incredible form of late, especially over the past month. Six goals and four assists in just 11 games in the top-flight have seen him become one of the most in-demand wingers in the league, with a goal catalogue that Ballon d’Or winners would be envious of.
And, with inklings that he could leave Fulham in the coming months, clubs have taken an interest – with Villa being one of the teams named in their quest to sign proven talent.
Unai Emery Keen on Move for Harry Wilson
The report by CaughtOffside states that contract negotiations have been paused between Fulham and Wilson, despite his strong form in the Premier League – which has opened up the opportunity to sign him from a number of top-flight sides.
There is ‘serious’ interest across the league, with Everton being the most serious at this stage, though Villa are also monitoring the situation.
Fulham made an offer to extend Wilson’s deal back in November, but discussions have slowed in recent weeks and his representatives are assessing the market as a result.
It’s thought that the ‘magical’ star’s uncertainty over where his future lies stems from the equal wariness over Marco Silva staying at Craven Cottage. If the Thamesside outfit cannot guarantee Silva will remain in the post with his contract also up at the end of the season, that could force Wilson’s hand in terms of a move.
The situation is seen as delicate, and that could see Villa pounce. Wilson has been seen as a ‘reliable, experienced winger’ who offers immediate attacking quality.
With 14 goal contributions in just 26 appearances for Fulham so far this season, Wilson is in the form of his life and if he isn’t to continue his affiliation with Silva, a move to Villa could be equally appetising.
Aston Villa do Struggle in Their Wider Areas
Villa have one of the best team spines in the country. Emiliano Martinez offers security in goal, whilst a centre-back cohort of Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings has clear talent.
Their central midfield ranks are most important with Youri Tielemans, Morgan Rogers, John McGinn, Amadou Onana and more thriving when called upon, and Ollie Watkins is a proven goalscorer.
But their wide areas are probably their weakest point. Rogers, Emi Buendia and McGinn, to an extent, have flourished there, but the likes of Jadon Sancho, Harvey Elliott, Evann Guessand and Leon Bailey haven’t come up with the goods.
Wilson could change that to make Villa a feared outfit from all angles, and on a free, his arrival would make a lot of sense on various levels.
