Aston Villa given green light to sign Tammy Abraham with Unai Emery keen
Aston Villa have now been given the green light to sign a “superb” player, with manager Unai Emery personally keen.
Emery drops update on Villa’s transfer plans
Emery has now confirmed that Villa are actively working on making new additions to the squad, saying: “The club is working on it. The people with this responsibility are trying to add information about possibilities.
“In case we can improve the squad, we will do it. In case someone is leaving as well, we are alert for it.
“I am happy with how we are doing the process this year, even with the difficulties and some mistakes we made in the summer.”
That is despite the fact the Villans are enjoying a very promising campaign, currently sitting third in the Premier League table, just six points behind leaders Arsenal, while they are also through to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Emery’s side were handed a tricky tie, travelling to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but they emerged as 2-1 winners against their Premier League rivals, with Emi Buendia and Morgan Rogers getting on the scoresheet.
Rogers has been in fantastic form as of late, recently grabbing an assist in the 3-1 victory against Nottingham Forest, and Ollie Watkins has caught the eye too, scoring four goals in his last four Premier League games.
However, given that Watkins is Aston Villa’s only out-and-out striker, they are now looking to sign a new striker, and there has been a development in their pursuit of AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham, who is currently out on loan at Besiktas.
According to reports from Turkey (via Sport Witness), Villa have been given the green light to sign Abraham, with Besiktas manager Sergen Yalçın willing to let the striker leave early, potentially to avoid having to shell out a fee of around €13m (£11m) to make the deal permanent.

He’s out-of-favour at his current club.
Emery is personally keen on signing the centre-forward, who scored 26 goals in 46 appearances for the Villans on loan during the 2018-19 campaign.
“Superb” Abraham could be solid Watkins back-up
It is a little strange that Besiktas are willing to part ways with the centre-forward, given that he is in-form, bagging two goals in his last three league games, and he has a solid goal record across all competitions this season.

Importantly, the Englishman is also experienced in the Premier League, scoring 26 goals in 89 top-flight appearances across spells with Chelsea and Swansea City.
Lauded as “superb” by journalist Josh Bunting, the 28-year-old is an experienced striker, having spent time in Turkey, England and Italy, notching nine Europa Conference League goals as Roma went on to win the 2021-22 competition.
With Aston Villa looking to compete on all fronts this season, it would make sense to deepen the squad, and Abraham has proven he could be a solid back-up option to Watkins.
