Backstage Report Claims Issues Before Main Event

Last night’s Survivor Series main event was a star-studded affair, featuring multi-time world champions and WrestleMania main eventers.

Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and CM Punk. It’s difficult to even write them in order of ‘biggest star’ without sparking debate, and it seems that same bone of contention has made its way into the discussion of who should enter when during the men’s WarGames match.

Before the show, reports from WrestleVotes emerged that there was ‘creative contention’ between the Superstars as to which order they would enter the match.

“With the amount of star power in play, several scenarios were mapped out, and there are differing opinions,” they posted via X.

It’s easy to see why, with the four biggest names in the match all having a legitimate claim to being WWE‘s main man.

Roman Reigns carried the company almost single-handedly through the early part of the decade, with his era-defining 1,316-day reign as WWE Universal Champion, and epic Bloodline story.

Cody Rhodes, meanwhile, has hit stratospheric heights since returning to the company in 2022, is massively popular with the younger audience, and is reminiscent of standard-bearers like Sting and John Cena.

Brock Lesnar has arguably the biggest name outside WWE, thanks to a successful UFC career, and, with all respect to The Rock, is seen as the true ‘Final Boss’ for WWE Superstars.

Lastly, CM Punk remains hugely popular with the older, more internet-savvy fans. Absent from the WWE for almost a decade, his fans would chant his name relentlessly during his absence, hoping for his return.

As things transpired, it was WWE World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk, who began the match, joined shortly thereafter by teammate and WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes, with Lesnar and Reigns being the final competitors to enter for their respective teams.

WWE Could Be Too Stacked at the Top Right Now

In previous eras of WWE, there has been one marquee name followed by a cast of supporting characters. Hulk Hogan was the undisputed leader of the Golden Era of WWE, with Randy Savage, Andre the Giant, and The Ultimate Warrior following behind.

During the late 90s, Vince McMahon strapped the rocket to Stone Cold Steve Austin, while Superstars like The Rock, Triple H, The Undertaker, and Mankind were mainstays in the main event scene.

The Ruthless Aggression era saw John Cena emerge as the company’s biggest name, with fellow Ohio Valley Wrestling graduates like Batista, Randy Orton, and Brock Lesnar going on to hugely successful careers in WWE and beyond.

In today’s crowded WWE main event scene, it’s a little bit more difficult to identify one person in particular as the face of the company, but with John Cena’s retirement rapidly approaching, there’s certainly room at the top.
