Benfica remain interested in Napoli centre-forward Lorenzo Lucca, with the idea of taking him on loan for the rest of the season.

The centre-forward has been a flop since the transfer from Udinese in July 2025, which was a loan for €9m with obligation to buy at the end of the season for a further €26m plus €5m in add-ons.

He has struggled to make an impact with two goals in 20 competitive games for the Partenopei, who repeatedly warned in public that he needed to “do more” to earn playing time.

Director of sport Giovanni Manna was very open that the club would consider other options for him in January, although much depends on the recovery time of Romelu Lukaku.

According to Sky Sport Italia, there was fresh contact between Benfica and Napoli today to discuss a potential loan move for the next six months.

This would not in any way prevent Napoli’s purchase obligation with Udinese, as that is reportedly activated the moment the Partenopei pick up a Serie A point in 2026.

It also would not be Lucca’s first move abroad, as he already played for Ajax in 2022-23.
