Bruno Fernandes injury latest as Man Utd vs Wolves decision made amid FPL deadline

Manchester United will be without their captain for the visit of Wolves in the Premier League on Tuesday night, with an update given on his return timeframe.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is unlikely to participate in Tuesday night’s Premier League match against Wolves at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim‘s squad faced the rock-bottom Midlands outfit just a few weeks ago, at Molineux, where they emerged as comfortable 4-1 victors. During that game, Fernandes netted two goals, while Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount also scored for the Red Devils.

United’s captain and main playmaker has been out of action since before Christmas, having limped off at half-time in the narrow loss to Aston Villa. Consequently, he was absent from the Boxing Day victory over Newcastle United, and it seems the Wolves match has also come too soon for him.

It will undoubtedly be a harsh blow for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers across the country, who would have hoped for his earlier return. Fernandes, valued at £9.2m, shares the highest points tally for a midfielder with Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.

FPL will kick-off Game Week 19 in a few hours, beginning with the midweek matches. Here, Mirror Football has provided an update on Fernandes’ recovery and the upcoming FPL deadlines;

Is Bruno Fernandes fit to play for Man Utd v Wolves?

Regrettably not. Although the midfielder is striving for a quick comeback, it’s anticipated he’ll be out until early-January.

What has Ruben Amorim said about Bruno Fernandes’ injury?

Speaking during his pre-Wolves press conference, Amorim confirmed he doesn’t expect to have his skipper available for selection. “Bruno was already saying that he needs to train, but we don’t know,” the Portuguese manager said this week.

“No chance he’s going to play against Wolves. No chance.”

Amorim was also keen to highlight Fernandes’ leadership qualities and the significance of his presence in the changing room. His absence for the forthcoming matches represents a substantial setback as a consequence.

“He’s the guy that is watching training even after treatment. He’s going there,” the United manager continued. “I don’t know if he wants my job or not, but he’s a leader.

“He can’t be that guy that when he’s not playing, he’s not talking and speaking. He’s always speaking.

“That’s why he’s the captain. He has bad things sometimes, the way he moves his arms [gestures on-field], but he’s got a lot of good things, too.

“So there are a lot of things that you don’t see, but that he does. He’s a great leader all the time.”

When is FPL’s deadline on Game Week 19?

The fixtures are arriving thick and fast throughout the Christmas period and, in turn, there are two match rounds this week, so make certain to set reminders for the FPL deadlines.

For Game Week 19, FPL managers have until 6pm GMT this evening (Tuesday, December 30) to make any alterations to their squads. That’s roughly two hours before United kick-off against Wolves at Old Trafford.

For Game Week 20 this weekend, users have until 11am GMT on Saturday, January 3.
