Cadiz Agree Loan Deal to Sign Newcastle Youngster Antonio Cordero
Newcastle United youngster Antonio Cordero has agreed a deal to join Spanish club Cadiz on loan after his Westerlo deal was ‘interrupted’, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Cordero made the move to Newcastle in the summer transfer window before being sent out on loan to Westerlo. The Magpies secured his signature from Spanish side Malaga, with his deal running down before Newcastle swooped in.
Cordero, who is only 19 years of age, has played seven times for Westerlo this season from a possible 18 games in the Jupiler Pro League, playing a total of 87 minutes. The loan move simply hasn’t worked out, and Newcastle have acted fast before the January window to find a different solution for the young forward heading into the second half of the campaign.
Fabrizio Romano: Cordero Set to Leave Newcastle on Loan Again
According to Fabrizio Romano, Spanish side Cadiz have agreed a loan deal to sign Newcastle youngster Cordero, with his most recent loan deal with Westerlo being cancelled.
Cadiz are currently competing in the second division in Spain, sitting in sixth position, having won three of their previous four games. Newcastle will be hoping it’s an opportunity for Cordero to receive more regular game time, and it could be a stroke of genius from the Magpies.
‘Best Young Coach in the World’ Now Frontrunner to Replace Eddie Howe at Newcastle
Newcastle United may consider replacing manager Eddie Howe with Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola amid inconsistent season form.
Move to Cadiz a Smart One for Newcastle
Before his move to St James’ Park, Cordero already had a strong taste of senior football. The youngster played 40 games for Malaga, who were competing in the second tier of football in Spain, despite being just 17 years old at the beginning of the season.
Newcastle have now opted to send Cordero back to the same league, where he’s already shown to be a real threat. They’ll now be hoping that Cordero can replicate the number of minutes he played during that season, as that’s what he desperately needs in order to grow and develop.
The Magpies might have considered bringing him back to the club to play in the youth sides, but with the move to Cadiz becoming a possibility, Newcastle might have found the ideal destination.
