Celtic Make Enquiry for New Manager to Replace Wilfried Nancy
Celtic have started to make enquiries for a new manager to replace Wilfried Nancy, despite public backing from CEO Michael Nicholson, according to TEAMtalk.
The pressure is seriously mounting on Nancy after a terrible start to his tenure at Parkhead. Celtic have lost all of their games since Nancy took charge earlier this month, with the low point being a disappointing 3-1 defeat against St Mirren in the Scottish Cup Final.
It’s rare to see a manager sacked so soon after joining a club, but the Celtic job is one that requires the right kind of manager and personality, and it will be interesting to see if the Glasgow club soon decide they’ve made the wrong decision. Managers often need time, but they won’t want to ensure their season is over before pulling the trigger.
Celtic Sounding Out Managers as Nancy Pressure Grows
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Celtic have started to sound out potential replacements for Nancy, with doubts growing internally about the former Columbus Crew manager. The report claims that doubts are growing despite the public backing from CEO Nicholson, with concerns over different factors in the early weeks of Nancy’s tenure.
Celtic are currently scouting targets that suit Nancy’s system, but there is a concern that heavy investment in players that suit a specific style could be a major issue if the manager does head through the exit door in the near future. Contacts have started over finding a potential replacement for Nancy if their form continues and they are forced to make a change in the coming weeks.
Michael Nicholson Backs Wilfried Nancy
Prior to Celtic’s game against Dundee United, where Celtic suffered yet another defeat under Nancy, Nicholson confirmed that the club’s backing for the manager is ‘absolutely solid’. When asked how strong their support is for the French manager, Nicholson said…
“Absolutely solid. It’s not even two weeks ago when we spoke about Wilfried and his appointment. There’s never an easy time to start at Celtic and it has been challenging. We’ve had some disappointing results, not least on Sunday. In that respect, I understand that the Celtic support are concerned about where we are. I understand and respect the right of every supporter to express their discontent and share that with us, but we know where we want to go and step by step it’s all of our job is to support Wilfried, his team and the squad to take us where we want to get to.”
Nicholson recognises the concerns for the supporters, and although Nancy is being backed publicly, it seems things might be a little different behind the scenes.
