Celtic Must Sack Wilfried Nancy and Hire Kieran McKenna
Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy is under heavy pressure after a disastrous start to life at the Glasgow giants, and it’s time for them to bite the bullet and bring in Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna.
Nancy arrived at Celtic earlier this month, but the first few weeks of his tenure couldn’t have gone much worse. Celtic have lost all four games under his tutelage, including a defeat in the Scottish League Cup final against St Mirren.
The game against St Mirren was a real opportunity to deliver some silverware and get fans onside, but the heavy favourites were comfortably beaten. It’s unclear how long Nancy is going to get in terms of being able to save his job, but reports have claimed he’s under severe pressure.
Celtic Need to Convince Kieran McKenna to Leave Ipswich
It’s time for Celtic to admit they made a mistake by hiring Nancy from Columbus Crew before it’s too late. It’s clearly not working out, with results dropping off a cliff since Martin O’Neill left the club, and they should be looking to England for their next manager.
Ipswich Town boss McKenna, described as ‘world-class’ by journalist Nick Ames, did a superb job with The Tractor Boys, helping them gain promotion from League One to the Premier League. Their double promotion was a huge achievement, and although they were relegated back down to the Championship, that can’t take away from the job he has done.
Ipswich currently sit in fifth position in the table, but a win could take them up to third. It’s clear that Nancy isn’t the right man and isn’t suited to Scottish football, and although McKenna is yet to manage in Scotland, he’s proved himself as an excellent manager who would be ideal for Celtic.
Celtic Must Pay £5m for Kieran McKenna
According to reports, Ipswich Town boss McKenna has a £5m release clause in his contract, which might put Celtic off in their potential pursuit. The report claims that Celtic were interested in appointing McKenna after Brendan Rodgers left the Glasgow club, so it will be interesting to see if he’s a target once again if Nancy is sacked.
If Celtic do opt to sack Nancy, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if they went for a free-agent manager, considering it would be their fourth manager of the season already.
