Chelsea hand Newcastle fresh Nicolas Jackson chance as Bayern make decision
Newcastle United are now set to receive the opportunity to sign a £70m Premier League rival in 2026, according to recent reports.
PL rivals open door for Newcastle to sign £70m ace
The Magpies have plenty of unfinished business from the summer, having spent much of the window receiving frustrating rejections and chasing a replacement for Alexander Isak.
Ultimately, they landed on Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, who scored his first goal for the club in midweek and received an instant comparison to Isak by manager Eddie Howe, who said: “Yoane is probably more closely linked to Alex’s style without being Alex himself.
“Yoane has got his own strengths, and his running in behind in particular on Wednesday night, I thought, was excellent.”
Woltemade, aside from his Tyne-Wear derby own goal, has also been a success. The towering German has scored eight goals in all competitions so far this season and is proving to be worth every penny of his club-record £69m fee.
But Newcastle and new sporting director Ross Wilson still have work to do. The Magpies have struggled for consistency this season and they’re clearly a side in need of quality in depth.
As a result, those in Tyneside have reportedly set their sights on the likes of Denzel Dumfries and Ruben Neves. Two experienced players at the peak of their powers, Newcastle would be welcoming the type of competition for places that top sides often crave.
Meanwhile, they could also welcome another striker in 2026. According to Caught Offside, Chelsea have opened the door for Newcastle to sign Nicolas Jackson as they look to offload their transfer flop once and for all.
Bayern Munich will not be triggering their £56m buy clause and Newcastle are reportedly among Jackson’s suitors alongside Everton, Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid.
Jackson could complete Newcastle’s frontline
It would certainly be a gamble, especially if Chelsea demand a similar price to Bayern’s £70m option. But it’s one that Newcastle could take when the time comes next summer.
On paper, they would be signing a player who was shown the door at Chelsea and has since struggled at Bayern. The reality, however, is that it wasn’t all bad for Jackson at Stamford Bridge. In the Senegal international’s finest campaign, he scored 17 goals and set up another six in all competitions to earn the praise of Enzo Maresca.

This Newcastle ace has struggled for his best for this season
The Chelsea boss told reporters in 2024: “He’s very important for us. On the ball he’s working fantastic, scoring, assist, linking with team-mates. Off the ball he’s working hard, pressing in the way we want to press. Doing fantastic with us.”
Jackson should already be a name familiar with PIF after reports claimed that they held talks to sign the 24-year-old last summer. Whether they can now turn talks into a concrete offer is now the big question.
A new striker shouldn’t be Newcastle’s top priority by any means, but the opportunity to complete their frontline may be one that they can’t resist next summer.
