Chelsea Pull Out of Antoine Semenyo January Transfer Race
Chelsea have pulled out of the race for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in January after holding talks, GIVEMESPORT sources understand.
GMS reported earlier today that the Blues had made an initial enquiry about the Ghana star earlier this week, to understand the situation regarding his release clause and his intentions over a move away from the Vitality Stadium in the new year.
However, it has now emerged that the club has decided against pursuing their interest any further after holding talks, and leaving Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool to battle it out for his signature instead.
Chelsea Pull Out of Antoine Semenyo Race
Chelsea made contact with Semenyo’s camp on Monday about a potential move to Stamford Bridge as they are fans of the player and respect his quality. It’s understood that all the ‘big six’ clubs have done the same, such has been the level of his performances over the last 12 months.
But GMS understands that Chelsea have made the decision not to pursue their interest any further, with the 25-year-old, who has been dubbed a ‘superstar’, mulling over offers from both Manchester clubs ahead of his release clause expiring on January 10th.
Chelsea will always be open to making additions to their squad if they feel that it would improve them, especially in the summer. But it’s understood that the club have a belief in their current forward options ahead of the second half of the campaign. The Blues are also keen to reward their existing outperformers across the squad, and plan to do so instead of signing Semenyo.
Chelsea Have Other Priorities
While Semenyo would undoubtedly make most squads better, scoring goals and the forward areas are not Chelsea’s biggest concern currently.
The club spent big in the summer to bring in Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens, while Estevao also arrived following a pre-agreed deal from Palmeiras. All five players have had mixed campaigns so far, while Cole Palmer has struggled with injuries, but there is clearly great quality within the squad.
Central defence is an area that Maresca has publicly admitted he wants to strengthen after injury to Levi Colwill in the summer, while the goalkeeper department has also been targeted recently too. A new forward isn’t a priority, and the club are clearly content with allowing him to move elsewhere.
