Chelsea are now racing to sign an “exceptional” new midfielder, who has been compared to Kevin De Bruyne.

Blues keen on signing new midfielder

The Blues are keen to get another central midfielder through the door before the February 2nd deadline, and a number of targets have been identified, with contact recently being made over a deal for Juventus’ Douglas Luiz, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Having struggled with injuries, Luiz has found game time hard to come by at Forest this season, but Sean Dyche has recently made it clear he is a fan of the Brazilian, saying: “He is a very good player. I said when we played him in Europe (before Christmas) we probably rushed him back, but because of his experience he has used that wisely to be back.”

“It doesn’t surprise me there is interest from other clubs in good players. That’s the nature of the business.”

The former Aston Villa man has often featured in a defensive role throughout his career to date, but Chelsea are also keen on bringing in a more attack-minded midfielder, according to a report from Caught Offside, which states they are now in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha.

The Blues’ interest is said to be at an early stage, and there is likely to be competition for his signature, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur also named as potential suitors.

Dortmund aren’t willing to sanction a departure for less than €60m – €65m (£52m – £56m), however, with one source adding: “The club’s board want to secure his long-term future, with his current deal running until 2028 and no release clause included. Dortmund are determined to keep him and are considering improved terms to fend off Premier League approaches.”

Nmecha could be “exceptional” signing for Chelsea

The Hamburg-born maestro has displayed his attacking quality by contributing five goals and three assists in 28 matches in all competitions, finding the back of the net three times in the Champions League.

Given his ability on the front foot, the Dortmund star has even been compared to De Bruyne by Jacek Kulig, with the scout also praising the German for his pace, passing, vision and dribbling.

In Dortmund’s 3-0 Bundesliga victory over Werder Bremen earlier this month, the maestro’s defensive attributes were on show too, making a number of key contributions.

Lauded as “exceptional” by ex-Dortmund boss Nuri Sahin, Nmecha has proven he could be a quality signing for Chelsea with his performances in both the Champions League and Bundesliga this season, and BlueCo should consider paying the German club’s high asking price.
