Chris Sutton Reveals Who is to Blame at Celtic After Fourth Straight Defeat

Chris Sutton has revealed who is to blame for Celtic’s latest horror show on Wednesday night.

The Bhoys traveled to take on Dundee United but fell to a 2-1 defeat on what was a hugely damaging nice for new manager, Wilfried Nancy.

Since taking the job on a permanent basis, Nancy has now lost four games out of four as the Celtic boss, having previously lost to Hearts, Roma and St Mirren in Sunday’s Premier Sports’ Cup Final.

That run of four defeats in a row is Celtic’s worst run in 47 years and has piled the pressure on the French boss who only took charge earlier this month.

While Nancy will undoubtedly be under pressure after this result, he wasn’t the only person who deserves criticism, according to ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton.

The former player and now-pundit took to social media after the game, describing the club’s players as ‘substandard’.

Taking to X, Sutton said: “After that Maeda miss you just wonder if it’s not meant to be for Wilfried Nancy… bottom line is it’s more the substandard players than the manager… it all goes back to a poor summer… Celtic look like a 3rd place team at present… well done to Jim Goodwin and Dundee United…”

Nancy On Borrowed Time At Celtic

It’s incredible that this conversation is being had, but Celtic could be looking for another new boss before long.

Replacing Martin O’Neill earlier this month, Nancy was clear that he was facing a pivotal first few games to prove himself as the club’s new boss with hugely important games in the Scottish Premiership, Europa League and Premier Sports’ Cup Final – all three being games that he lost.

Facing Dundee United, it was a big opportunity to put things right with a win, but a feeble display allowed the minnows to claim the win, leaving supporters to wonder what is next.

Slow starts are understandable, but losing four games in a row for the first time in 47 years is not acceptable for a Celtic boss. While the playing squad may have frailties, they have more than enough quality and leadership to win these sorts of games and as a result, the club now have a really difficult decision to make.
