Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed plans to become a football club owner after his retirement, dismissing any possibility of moving into coaching.

The Portuguese star made the announcement whilst speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards on Friday, where he collected the Best Middle East Player of 2024 award.

The 39-year-old Al Nassr forward was clear about his future ambitions, promising he would one day own a “big club” and implement changes where necessary.

“I’m not a coach. I’m never going to be a coach, president of the club? No. Maybe owner of the club,” Ronaldo declared at the ceremony.

When pressed further about his ownership aspirations, Ronaldo said: “Probably. I will see. It will depend on the moment, the right opportunities.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner remained cryptic when asked if he had specific clubs in mind, responding: “Not yet, a few maybe.”

Later in the ceremony, Ronaldo expanded on his vision, making a bold declaration about his future plans.

“Mark my words, I will be an owner of a big club. For sure,” he stated, adding that he would “make the things clear and adjust what I think is bad there.”

Despite being 39 years old, Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he continues to play at the highest level.

The Portuguese forward is currently on 916 professional goals and has previously stated his intention to reach 1,000 before retirement.

“Soon I will do 900 and after that it will be 1,000,” Ronaldo said earlier this season.

His immediate future remains in Saudi Arabia, where he has expressed contentment with his current situation.

“I’m happy to play in Saudi Arabia and I want to continue,” he stated, suggesting his ownership ambitions are still some way off.

His ownership aspirations follow in the footsteps of other former footballers who have ventured into club ownership.

David Beckham is among the owners of Inter Miami in the MLS, whilst Gary Neville and his Class of ’92 teammates own League Two club Salford City.

With a reported net worth of £636 million, Ronaldo’s options may be limited when it comes to purchasing some of his former clubs.

However, reports suggest the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) could offer Ronaldo an opportunity to buy a club in the Saudi Pro League, potentially keeping him in the country after retirement.
