Crystal Palace Expect Tottenham to Move for Oliver Glasner if Thomas Frank Sacked
Crystal Palace are expecting Tottenham to make a move to appoint Oliver Glasner if they sack Thomas Frank, GIVEMESPORT correspondent Bobby Manzi has revealed on the latest episode of the Market Madness podcast.
Both managers have seen their immediate futures called into question recently after a string of poor results in north London, while Glasner called out the board for their decision to sell captain Marc Guehi the day before the game against Sunderland, which they went on to lose 2-1.
Palace held talks the day after the game about the future of the Austrian, who has already confirmed that he will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires, but it was decided that he would stay in the role, while Frank bought himself some time with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in midweek.
Palace Expect Tottenham to Move for Glasner
Despite his win in midweek, Frank remains under huge pressure for his job with GIVEMESPORT sources understanding the situation is more ‘when than if’ he gets sacked. Glasner is someone they have been linked with in the past, and with his impending availability, it has been suggested that he could be targeted once again.
It has now emerged that the interest from Spurs may have played a part in Crystal Palace’s decision to stick by Glasner until the end of the season, with reliable journalist Manzi revealing they don’t want to pay any compensation for someone who is set to leave anyway, and could in fact earn money from his exit instead.
“As far as I’m aware, they don’t really want to pay out the compensation,” he said.
“They’re aware that Tottenham could come in if they get rid of Thomas Frank, and obviously that would then lead to Palace getting paid for Oliver Glasner, and just for the stability where so much is changing, they don’t really want the managers to go in January. “So all of these are coming together, and they just don’t want to make that decision.”
Crystal Palace Can’t Lose Glasner Mid-Season
Palace have gone from the peak of their footballing history, winning the FA Cup last season, to losing key men at every turn. Eberechi Eze joined Arsenal in the summer, Marc Guehi has gone to Man City, Jean-Philippe Mateta has asked to leave this month, and Glasner has confirmed a summer exit.
But the Eagles simply cannot afford to lose the manager right now, as it would simply see the team collapse rather than push on.
Him leaving in the summer provides time for the club to find a succession plan and plan accordingly. Bringing in some cash for him would help ease the matter, but they really should be doing all they can to keep hold of him for as long as they possibly can.
