Crystal Palace go fourth after win at Wolves

Crystal Palace climbed to fourth in the Premier League and made it a miserable homecoming for new Wolves boss Rob Edwards with a 2-0 win at Molineux.

Edwards returned to the club he represented as a player during the international break tasked with dragging them away from the bottom of the table but he endured a disappointing opening game in charge.

Daniel Munoz and Yeremy Pino scored in the second half to give Palace a thoroughly deserved win. Wolves have now failed to win any of their first 12 league games.

Hinshelwood sinks Bees

Brighton are fifth after late goals from Danny Welbeck and Jack Hinshelwood saw them come from behind to edge out Brentford 2-1.

Igor Thiago’s penalty, his ninth goal of the season, put the visitors in front approaching the half-hour mark but Welbeck levelled after 71 minutes, converting Yankuba Minteh’s cross.

Hinshelwood, making his first appearance after seven games out with an ankle injury, bundled in the winner with six minutes to go. Brentford could still have grabbed a point but Thiago saw a stoppage-time penalty saved by home goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

Black Cats beaten

Sunderland, who started the day in the Champions League places, slipped to sixth after going down 1-0 at Fulham.

The Cottagers dominated for long spells but had to wait until the 84th minute to get the goal they deserved, Raul Jimenez slotting home after good work from Samuel Chukwueze.

West Ham climbed out of the relegation zone but will be disappointed after squandering a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at Bournemouth.

Callum Wilson’s brace against his old club had the Hammers in complete control at the Vitality Stadium but they could not hold on.

Marcus Tavernier halved the arrears after 69 minutes from the penalty spot and Enes Unal grabbed the equaliser with nine minutes to go. Unal almost grabbed the winner late on only to be denied by a brilliant save by Alphonse Areola.
