Damon Heta marked the return of the World Darts Championship after Christmas with a stunning nine-darter in his third-round match against Luke Woodhouse.

The 37-year-old was in action in the first match back after the Christmas break and lost the opening set to Woodhouse.

But the Australian darts star got back on track in style when he returned to the oche with the perfect leg.

The 3,000-plus crowd erupted as Heta landed the double-12 for a nine-darter as he jumped around on stage celebrating.

Woodhouse even joined in the celebrations to congratulate his opponent.

Heta becomes the second player at this year’s World Darts Championship to hit a perfect leg.

Christian Kist managed the feat in the first round during his match against Madars Razma.

The Dutchman was unable to follow up the nine-darter as he was knocked out by Razma.

But Heta will join Kist in becoming £60,000 richer after Paddy Power pledged to pay out £180,000 for every nine-darter.

The money is being split three ways with the player receiving £60,000 and the same amount going to Prostate Cancer UK as well as a lucky spectator in the crowd.

Kris, a railway worker from Sutton, was the fortunate fan inside Alexandra Palace when Kist landed his nine-darter who was picked to receive the £60,000 prize.

“I’m absolutely speechless to be honest,” he said at the time.

“Didn’t expect it to happen to me and yeah, I’m just really speechless! Shaking still and I can’t believe it.

“I’m a massive darts fan, I’m came here probably 10 years ago with my brother and my granddad who I’m here with tonight, but haven’t been back since.

“This was a birthday present so it’s made it all so much better.

“My granddad got me the tickets too, who I’m with so that makes it even sweeter doesn’t it.”

Jonny Clayton is in action against Daryl Gurney straight after Heta’s match against Woodhouse before Stephen Bunting faces Madars Razma in the final match of the afternoon session.
