Daniel Farke Must Thank ‘Unbelievable’ Leeds Star For Saving His Job Vs Chelsea
Daniel Farke’s job with Leeds United has been saved, for now, following a stunning home win over Chelsea.
The Whites recorded a 3-1 victory over Enzo Maresca’s side to lift them out of the Premier League’s relegation zone with a much-needed victory on home soil.
Jake Bijol, Ao Tanaka and Dominic Calvert-Lewin got the decisive goals for Leeds, while Pedro Neto made things interesting with a goal for the Blues after 50 minutes. However, Farke has his Leeds stars to thank for guiding the team to a crucial win in West Yorkshire on a night that may just have bought him some extra time in the job.
Forget Calvert-Lewin, Leeds Star Was Key
It was former Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin who picked up most of the plaudits for his performance against Chelsea. Three shots and one goal tells half of the story for the striker. However, it was his five defensive contributions, five ground duels won, and six aerial duels won that really helped his side to victory.
But despite his display, Jaka Bijol was the real star of the show. The 26-year-old has had to be patient for his opportunities under Farke this term, but four starts in his last five games has indicated that he’s becoming a proven star at Elland Road.
A total of 11 defensive contributions, two tackles, nine clearances, five headed clearances and six recoveries tells the story of just how important the 26-year-old was in silencing Chelsea and helping Leeds to a crucial three points.
Daniel Farke Lives To Fight Another Day
A 3-1 win over Chelsea is a massive achievement at the best of times, but for Daniel Farke, that victory could be crucial.
Leeds have now moved out of the relegation zone as a result of the win, with the Whites boasting 14 points from 14 games this term. For the German boss, it might have been a result that keeps his job.
It was reported that the clash with Chelsea was seen as ‘pivotal’ by the Leeds hierarchy, who had been left concerned by the club’s Autumn form. They were, however, encouraged by the spirited performance in the 3-2 defeat to Man City.
Despite Gary O’Neil’s interest in the job, the win over the Blues will buy him more time, but there’s no doubt that the pressure will build in the coming weeks. Leeds host Liverpool on Saturday, before facing Brentford, Crystal Palace and Sunderland in a run of games that will surely decide Farke’s fate at Leeds United.
