Devin Haney picks a winner in Mario Barrios vs Ryan Garcia world title fight

Published

on

Devin Haney has issued his final prediction for Mario Barrios vs Ryan Garcia, considering who he might face in a unification match at 147lbs.

The pair will lock horns for Barrios’ WBC welterweight title on February 21, with Garcia looking to become a world champion at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

His first outing at 147lbs, however, did not exactly go according to plan, as a lacklustre performance ultimately saw the 27-year-old lose a unanimous decision to Rolando Romero.

This second professional defeat, in May, came just over a year after his controversial majority decision victory over Haney, which was later overturned to a no-contest.

This was because ‘King Ry’ had tested positive for ostarine, a performance-enhancing substance, which then prompted the New York State Athletic Commission to hand him a year-long ban.

But despite that, and indeed his loss to Romero, Garcia has managed to secure himself an immediate world title shot against Barrios.

The 30-year-old comes off back-to-back draws against Abel Ramos and a 46-year-old Manny Pacquiao, who many felt had done enough to edge their encounter in July.

Based on his last two performances, then, many are favouring Garcia to dethrone Barrios. One man backing a Garcia victory is WBO welterweight champion Haney, who has agreed with a list of predictions on X.

“I like this.. I got Gary over the Andy guy tho.”

The other fight Haney refers to is Gary Antuanne Russell vs Andy Hiraoka, which will see Russell defend his WBA super-lightweight title on the Barrios-Garcia undercard.

Inter held meeting with referees’ team after controversial Atalanta draw

Published

Serie A league leaders Inter felt undone in their 1-1 draw against Atalanta, as La Dea were handed a controversial goal and the Nerazzurri were also denied a clear penalty late in the tie.

The scenes were rather ugly towards the conclusion of the game, as Cristian Chivu was also sent off for dissent.

La Gazzetta dello Sport – relayed by Calciomercato, report that Inter CEO Beppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio spoke to the refereeing team after the tie. The conversation has been described as rather polite.

This is the second time Inter had complained to the refs, with the first instance coming in the loss to Napoli earlier in the campaign. Unlike that point, Inter went into a media blackout and no one from the club came forward to make statements.

After the Napoli controversy, Marotta had questioned the calls. This time, the league leaders remainded silent and let that do the talking.
