The Italy international broke the deadlock in the opening nine minutes at San Siro when he placed a precise snooker shot into the far bottom corner past Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.

It was former Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski who started the move by robbing Scott McTominay in midfield, then Lautaro Martinez found Marcus Thuram, who laid off a disguised pass for Dimarco.

This was his fourth goal of the season in Serie A and could yet prove a crucial one in the title race.
