Don Charles names frontrunner for Daniel Dubois next fight after return as trainer

Don Charles has provided a big update on who Daniel Dubois will face in his next fight.

The past 24 hours has seen Charles make a surprise return as the trainer of Dubois, just a few months on from the pair parting ways after ‘DDD’ suffered a fifth round knockout defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.

Dubois had began working with Tony Sims instead, but before the duo have even been able to have a fight together, the former IBF heavyweight champion will now reunite with Charles.

April has been touted as when Dubois will potentially return to the ring, and Charles has now told Seconds Out that the rumours of a bout against Zhilei Zhang could indeed come to fruition.

“That is [the case]. It’s publicly documented. We’re literally 24 hours since I was reinstated so there’s a lot of things I’ve got to talk in point, and one of them is the next opponent for Daniel. Zhang I believe is the frontrunner. You can say that yes.

“Nothing is finalised from my understanding, so we’re just going to get on with it, get our heads down and train, and whoever they bring I will advise my client the fighter and the managers accordingly to say we should take this fight oe not take this fight, that’s what I’m paid for.”

Zhang was last in action in February 2025, suffering a stoppage loss to Agit Kabayel, but prior to that he had claimed notable victories over Deontay Wilder and Joe Joyce, so a clash against Dubois would certainly interest fight fans.
