Eddie Hearn sees only one winner in Deontay Wilder vs Derek Chisora

Eddie Hearn has offered his take on the reported matchup between former world champion Deontay Wilder and heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora.

Initially, it appeared as though all roads were leading towards a collision between Wilder and bona fide heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk, who currently possesses the WBC, IBF and WBA titles.

This became a realistic proposition after Usyk called out ‘The Bronze Bomber’ towards the end of last year, with the Ukrainian wishing to defend his belts in America.

That plan, however, has since been scuppered, as Brunch Boxing reported on Monday that former world title challenger Chisora has emerged as a more likely opponent for Wilder.

Further details of the situation were then confirmed by journalist Dan Rafael, who reported that the matchup, slated for April, will take place in London.

Chisora has not fought since his unanimous decision victory over Otto Wallin in February 2025, after which he was expected to enter a trilogy showdown with Dillian Whyte.

For whatever reason, though, their all-British dustup – slated for last month – was ultimately abandoned, leaving Chisora in search of a new opponent for his 50th professional outing.

Now, it seems, the 42-year-old has found just that, with Wilder expected to face his fellow veteran on UK soil.

Speaking with iFL TV, Matchroom promoter Hearn suggested that Chisora has landed a showdown with the American at a favourable stage in their respective careers.

“I think [the fight is] all right. Obviously Del is what Del is. He’s a British boxing… what do you wanna call him – hero; icon?

“Wilder is way past his best but always a name, and always exciting. I think Chisora wins, so I think it’s a good fight for Del.”

Wilder, 40, secured a seventh-round finish over Tyrrell Herndon last June, which followed his punishing defeats to Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker.
