Emma Raducanu has added the Singapore Tennis Open to her 2025 schedule, despite withdrawing from her first tournament of the year due to injury concerns.

The British No. 2 pulled out of the ASB Classic in Auckland after suffering what she described as a “back niggle” before Christmas.

However, the 22-year-old is set to return to action at the Australian Open and has now confirmed her participation in the WTA 250 event in Singapore.

The tournament announcement comes as Raducanu signals her intention to compete more frequently this season, following a limited schedule of just 13 tour events in 2024.

The Singapore Tennis Open will take place from January 27 to February 2 at the Kallang Tennis Hub.

Raducanu joins a strong field of competitors, including fellow Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin.

World No 14 Anna Kalinskaya, Elise Mertens and Wang Xinyu are also set to compete in the WTA 250 event.

“The player field is looking good for the tournament, and I believe we are going to see some great matches in both singles and doubles,” said co-tournament director Laura Ceccarelli.

While this will be Raducanu’s first competitive appearance in Singapore, she is already familiar with the country’s tennis facilities.

The former US Open champion previously completed a training block at Singapore’s Tanglin Club two years ago.

At the time, she shared her positive experience, stating: “We worked, got stuck in (literally..), enjoyed the great culture, improved and had so much fun here.”

She added: “Thank you to everyone’s warm welcome, you made it even more special. I’ll be back!!”

Her return to Singapore now fulfils that promise, this time in a competitive capacity.

Raducanu’s commitment to a fuller schedule in 2025 is underlined by her recent appointment of renowned fitness trainer Yutaka Nakamura, who previously worked with Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka.

“I want to play more than I did this year,” Raducanu said after adding Nakamura to her team.

“I appointed Yutaka because I really wanted to spend more time and energy on my fitness.

“I think now with my setup, I’m in a place where I can continue work on the road.

“With my tennis, I’m in a pretty good spot. I feel like I just want to see how much I can do, fulfill my potential. I’m curious about what my level can get to.”
