Erling Haaland Says Arsenal Fan Laura Woods ‘Probably Doesn’t Like Me’
Erling Haaland had an amusing response to learning TNT Sports presenter Laura Woods is an Arsenal supporter during his live TV interview on Wednesday night. The moment came after Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night, which saw the Norwegian forward score his 21st goal of the season from as many appearances when he netted the winning penalty just before halftime.
Pep Guardiola’s side have now lost just three of their last 20 fixtures across all competitions and, while it looked as though the gap between them and Premier League leaders Arsenal could have extended to 10 points just a couple of weeks ago, they are now only two points astray. Woods will be all too familiar with how often Haaland has stood in the way of the Gunners’ hopes of ending a league title drought of more than two decades.
In recent meetings between the sides, his tit-for-tat rivalry with Gabriel has made the fight for English football supremacy even tastier. The best part, however, is that Haaland knows all too well how he’s viewed among north Londoners.
Haaland’s Golden Reaction to Laura Woods Being an Arsenal Fan
Woods was desperate to know about the mood inside the Manchester City dressing room following another big win for Haaland and co., as she asked whether he feels he’s in a good position to chase down Arsenal. Steve McManaman and Steven Gerrard were both quick to let the striker know that she supports the Gunners, to which he replied (watch the full segment below):
“So she probably don’t like me then…”
Haaland has faced Arsenal seven times in the Premier League, and his record against Mikel Arteta’s side is exactly what you’d expect. He’s only lost twice to them, scoring five goals and providing a further two assists.
So when Woods quipped in agreement with his verdict about her not liking him, she wasn’t wrong – she’s probably sick of the sight of him, to put it plainly. Needless to say, his response wasn’t the only time he made the panel laugh either, as he also made a joke about Mohamed Salah.
Arsenal Will Be Nervously Looking Over Their Shoulders Again
In the past, this has been the point in the season when Arsenal’s title hopes are derailed from the straight and narrow of their early-season form. Already, patterns are repeating themselves: they have dropped points in three of their last five league fixtures – a 2-2 draw at Sunderland, a 1-1 draw against 10-man Chelsea, and a last-gasp 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.
Their biggest adversaries, Man City, are now just two points behind them as a result, and previous mentality issues will be under close examination over the coming weeks if the Gunners are to realise their title-winning potential. Whereas seemingly everyone had accepted just a few weeks ago that the Gunners would finally win it this season, nothing looks nailed on anymore, and Haaland will likely have a big say on things if Arteta does fail to get his team over the line.
