Everton Keen On 'Excellent' Midfield Star Who David Moyes Loves

Everton are plotting a move to sign a household name in midfield next month. The Toffees are expected to be busy in the January transfer window as they look to kick on under David Moyes and cement their spot in the top half of the Premier League table.

Sitting 10th as it stands, plenty has gone right for Everton this season, however a couple of key positions need to be strengthened in order to help them get to the next level.

With one target in particular, it could be a significant step forward if they can pull it off next month.

Everton could be tempted by a move to sign Kalvin Phillips in January. According to Sky Sports, the Manchester City star is on their radar as they look to bolster their central midfield ranks.

The 30-year-old has played just seven minutes of football for Pep Guardiola’s side so far this term in the EFL Cup, leaving the door open to a potential move away.

In a Sky Sports preview of the January window, they wrote: “There is also desire to sign a central midfielder, even on loan, to cover for the loss of Idrissa Gueye, who has gone to AFCON. Kobbie Mainoo and Kalvin Phillips, both of whom possess the Premier League experience Moyes wants, are players Everton like.”

Moyes Could Reignite Phillips’ Career

The time is now for Kalvin Phillips to move on and reignite his career elsewhere. Having joined Man City three and a half years ago, the midfielder has played just 32 times for Guardiola’s side.

Now 30 years of age, the midfielder is at risk of seeing his undoubted talent go to waste.

At Leeds United we saw exactly what he was capable of and with Ipswich last term, we saw glimpses of what he had to offer, but we need to see it on a regular basis.

A move to Everton could be the ideal move to get him back on track. Playing under Moyes, who described him as an ‘excellent player’ during their time together at West Ham, in a side who are in the top half of the Premier League will offer him the platform to show his talent once again and perhaps earn him a permanent move from Man City.

It would be such a shame to see his career continue to fizzle out, so it’s essential that Phillips moves on and takes the opportunity to shine.
