Ex-Chelsea Ace Victor Moses Joins Kazakhstan Side Kaysar Kyzylorda
A former Chelsea star who won the Premier League while at Stamford Bridge has made a surprise move to a club competing in one of Europe’s lesser-known leagues.
It’s not uncommon for veteran players who have reached the pinnacle of English football to see out their careers abroad. Most end up either in the MLS or the Saudi Pro League due to the money on offer.
Somewhat of a Premier League cult hero has broken that mold with his decision to sign with a club with just 35.2k followers on Instagram. The response from fans is one of confusion, with many calling it a “random” transfer for a player of such fame.
Ex-Chelsea Hero Joins European Minnows
Chelsea’s 2016-17 Premier League triumph came under Antonio Conte, and the Italian proved his worth as a manager who can get the best out of players who perhaps are not of world-class standard. That was the case for Victor Moses, who was handed a new right-wing-back role.
The Nigerian impressed, appearing 34 times in the league, scoring three goals and providing as many assists. He has spent the majority of his career in England, also playing at Liverpool, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Stoke City.
But Moses has left English football after a brief spell at Luton Town and he’s headed to Kazakhstan Premier League outfit Kaysar Kyzylorda. The 35-year-old had been a free agent since July 2025 and the Kazakhstani side have secured his signature.
The 38-cap Nigeria international has signed a deal that runs only until December and joins a team made up solely of Kazakhstani players. His new club sits 11th in the table, without a win in their last five games and have just one Europa League play-off appearance to its name in terms of history in European competitions.
Fans Stunned By ‘Random’ Moses Move
Kaysar announced the signing of the two-time Europa League winner on their Instagram account: “The former player of the Nigerian national team will protect the honor of the Kyzylorda club in the new season. Victor Moses is a footballer known for his high-level experience after performing in a number of European clubs. His addition to the “Kaisar” team is a clear proof of the team’s goals for the upcoming season.”
The club’s media team has rolled out the red carpet for Moses with four separate Instagram posts celebrating his signing. The Nigerian was welcomed by fans at their Gani Muratbayev Stadium on Saturday and will wear the 11 shirt.
Fans were surprised to see the former Liverpool star make the move and one wrote in response: “Random move, everyone will remember his season at wingback for Conte in 16/17.”
Another gave a lengthy explanation about the move: “Kaysar are on a spending spree following the privatization it seems. Should be a good move for Moses as long as he gets paid… Not bad at all for one final contract.”
One seemed to joke about Moses likely landing a lucrative deal: “I love people who continue playing just for the love of the game.”
Another added: “That’s a… choice.”
Moses made 128 appearances during his time at Chelsea, winning four major trophies, including the FA Cup. He was part of a Nigeria team that lifted the African Cup of Nations in 2013 and now looks set to see out his career in Kazakhstan.
